Background: Previous studies have shown that aldolase B (ALDOB) might play controversial roles in multiple types of cancer, which could act as a cancer-promoting factor or a cancer-inhibiting factor depending on the subtype of the cancer. However, the role of ALDOB in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) patients has not been clearly elucidated. Therefore, this study aimed to comprehensively explore the expression level, prognostic value, functional enrichment, immune infiltration, and N6-methyladenosine (m6A) modification of ALDOB in ccRCC patients.

To investigate the effects of postoperative fusion implantation on the mesoscopic biomechanical properties of vertebrae and bone tissue osteogenesis in idiopathic scoliosis, a macroscopic finite element model of the postoperative fusion device was developed, and a mesoscopic model of the bone unit was developed using the Saint Venant sub-model approach. To simulate human physiological conditions, the differences in biomechanical properties between macroscopic cortical bone and mesoscopic bone units under the same boundary conditions were studied, and the effects of fusion implantation on bone tissue growth at the mesoscopic scale were analyzed. The results showed that the stresses in the mesoscopic structure of the lumbar spine increased compared to the macroscopic structure, and the mesoscopic stress in this case is 2.

Cyanobacterial aggregates (CAs) comprised of photosynthetic and phycospheric microorganisms are often the cause of cyanobacterial blooms in eutrophic freshwater lakes. Although phylogenetic diversity in CAs has been extensively studied, much less was understood about the activity status of microorganisms inside CAs and determinants of their activities. In this study, the 16S rRNA gene (rDNA)-based total communities within CAs in Lake Taihu of China were analyzed over a period of 6 months during the bloom season; the 16S rRNA-based active communities during daytime, nighttime, and under anoxic conditions were also profiled.

Current hydrogel-based scaffolds offer a promising approach to accelerate tissue regeneration, but great challenges remain in developing platforms that mimic the physical microenvironment of tissues combined with therapeutic biological cues. Here, a 3D bioprinting gelatin-alginate hydrogel for the construction of gradient composite scaffolds that mimic the dermal stiffness microenvironment was developed for architecture construction by extruding the bioink on calcium-containing substrates to achieve gradient secondary cross-linking, meanwhile, adipose-derived stem cells were encapsulated in the present hydrogels for therapeutic purposes. The gradient-stiffness scaffold exhibited good stability and biocompatibility as well as enhanced proliferation and migration of the adipose-derived stem cells.

Nucleic acid aptamers are ssDNA or ssRNA fragments that specifically recognize targets. However, the pharmacodynamic properties of natural aptamers consisting of 4 naturally occurring nucleosides (A, G, C, T/U) are generally restricted for inferior binding affinity than the cognate antibodies. The development of high-affinity modification strategies has attracted extensive attention in aptamer applications.

As renal fibrosis nanotherapeutics, the endogenous biomaterial melanin not only has natural biocompatibility and biodegradability but also has inherent photoacoustic imaging ability and certain anti-inflammatory effects. These properties determine that melanin can not only as a carrier of medication but also track the biodistribution and renal uptake of drugs in vivo by photoacoustic imaging in real-time. Curcumin is a natural compound with biological activity, which has excellent ROS scavenging ability and good anti-inflammatory property.
