Diethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) is a typical environmental pollutant and poses a potential threat to organisms by disrupting the lipid metabolism. This study found that DEHP at environmental concentrations, led to lipid accumulation in female zebrafish, as indicated by significant increases in the content of total cholesterol, triglycerides and the lipid droplets, in a concentration-dependent manner. However, how DEHP induces the lipid accumulation remains poorly understood.

Pseudorabies virus (PRV), a member of the Alphaherpesvirinae subfamily and a causative pathogen of Aujeszky's disease, has a broad host range including domestic and wild animals. PRV has been reported as a causative agent in patients with acute encephalitis in 2021, which suggests PRV might be a novel animal-origin virus in terms of zoonotic spillover and spread potential. To manage current PRV epidemics in pigs and prepare for future pandemics in other species including humans.

Swine Alpha-coronaviruses are one of the most destructive pathogens affecting the swine industries across the world. Swine Alpha-coronaviruses include transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), porcine epidemic diarrhea virus, porcine respiratory coronavirus, and swine acute diarrhea syndrome coronavirus (SADS-CoV). Thus far, swine Alpha-coronaviruses treatment options are very limited.

Article Synopsis
  • Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are versatile porous materials with high surface areas and structures that can be tailored for various applications, including gas adsorption and energy storage.
  • Recent research highlights their potential in electrochemical energy storage, particularly as functional separators in high-energy batteries, to mitigate issues like dendritic growth and the shuttle effect.
  • The review discusses the synthesis, advantages, and detailed mechanisms of COFs in improving ionic transport and their future prospects in advanced energy systems.

Objectives: To identify the determinants of quality of life (QoL) among early-stage upper gastrointestinal cancer (UGIC) patients in Nanchong City to inform the development of targeted treatment plans.

Methods: In this retrospective study, 642 patients diagnosed with UGIC were included. A phenomenological approach was employed, involving in-depth face-to-face interviews to explore patients' real-life experiences with QoL, with an emphasis on spiritual and psychological aspects.

In recent years, microplastics (MPs) have emerged as a significant environmental pollutant, garnering substantial attention for their migration and transformation behaviors in natural environments. MPs frequently infiltrate natural porous media such as soil, sediment, and rock through various pathways, posing potential threats to ecological systems and human health. Consequently, the migration and adsorption mechanisms applied to MPs in porous media have been extensively studied.

Article Synopsis
  • - African swine fever (ASF) is a serious disease affecting pigs, causing major economic losses worldwide, and is caused by the African swine fever virus (ASFV), which has complex effects on host cells.
  • - This study used transcriptome sequencing to analyze how ASFV infection alters gene expression in pig macrophages, finding that thousands of genes were significantly affected, particularly in cytokines and signaling pathways.
  • - Observations using electron microscopy revealed that ASFV infection caused damage to mitochondria and decreased structural features in macrophages, which may hinder their ability to detect and combat pathogens effectively.

The combined pollution of lead (Pb) and polystyrene microplastics (PS-MPs) is common in aquatic environments. However, the combined neurotoxicity of these two pollutants is still poorly understood. In this study, zebrafish (Danio rerio) larvae were used to assess the combined neurotoxicity and mechanism of Pb and PS-MPs at environmentally relevant concentrations.

This experiment investigated the effects of different levels of bile acid (BA) additives in diets on the lactation performance, serum antioxidant metabolites, and serum biochemical indices of 60 multiparous mid-lactation dairy cows. The cows were randomized to receive one of the four homogeneous treatments, with the BA preparation supplemented at 0, 6, 12, and 18 g/head/d. The experiment lasted for 14 weeks.

Answer sorting and filtering are two closely related steps for determining the answer to a question. Answer sorting is designed to produce an ordered list of scores based on Top-k and contextual criteria. Answer filtering optimizes the selection according to other criteria, such as the range of time constraints the user expects.

The threat of tetracycline (TC) to human health has become a significant issue that cannot be disregarded. Herein, in order to achieve effective degradation and high-sensitivity detection of TC, BiOBr/ZnFeO-GO (BOB/ZFO-GO) S-scheme heterojunction nanocomposites (NCs) have been prepared using hydrothermal method. GO with high light absorption capacity accelerated the electron transfer between BiOBr and ZnFeO nanocrystals and extended the light absorption region of BOB/ZFO NCs.

Excessive lipid mobilization will snatch cell membrane lipids in postpartum dairy cows, which may impair the function of immune cells, including peripheral mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and polymorphonuclear granulocytes (PMNs). Acetate, as a precursor and the energy source of milk fat synthesis, plays a key role in lipid synthesis and the energy supply of dairy cows. However, there is little information about the effect of sodium acetate (NaAc) on the immune function of PBMC and PMN in postpartum dairy cows.

Aims: This study aims to provide representative information on heart failure (HF) patients in China, especially older adults aged ≥75 years. We aim to clarify the age-related discrepancies in performance measures and the modifying effect of age on the impact of HF patients' characteristics on clinical outcomes.

Methods And Results: All HF patients admitted into five tertiary and four secondary hospitals of the Capital Medical University were divided into two groups according to age: 1419 (53.

Objective: To date, there is no consensus on the surgery strategies of cranioplasty (CP) and ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) placement. This meta-analysis aimed to investigate the safety of staged and simultaneous operation in patients with comorbid cranial defects with hydrocephalus to inform future surgery protocols.

Methods: A meta-analysis of PubMed, Ovid, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library databases from the inception dates to February 8, 2023 adherent to PRISMA guidelines was conducted.

Ferroptosis is a newly discovered form of regulated cell death that is triggered primarily by lipid peroxidation. A growing body of evidence has implicated ferroptosis in the pathophysiology of traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, none of these studies focused its role on TBI-induced hippocampal injury.

Atrophic gastritis can cause mucosa thinning, while detailed metrological evidence is lacking. We aimed to compare the morphological features of full-thickness gastric mucosa in antrum and corpus and evaluate the diagnostic performance for atrophy. Gastric cancer patients were prospectively enrolled (N = 401).
