To predict local progression after microwave ablation (MWA) in patients with stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), we developed a CT-based radiomics model. Postoperative CT images were used. The intraclass correlation coefficients, two-sample t-test, least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression, and Pearson correlation analysis were applied to select radiomics features and establish radiomics score.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on identifying risk factors for lung parenchyma hemorrhage and hemoptysis in patients undergoing microwave ablation for stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
  • A total of 417 patients were analyzed, with data from two medical centers; univariable and multivariable logistic analyses were performed to find significant risk factors.
  • Key risk factors identified include focal blood supplies, proximity of vessels larger than 2 mm, and traversing vessels, which increased the likelihood of hemorrhage and hemoptysis during the procedure.

The development of noninvasive glucose sensors capable of continuous monitoring without restricting user mobility is crucial, particularly for managing diabetes, which demands consistent and long-term observation. Traditional sensors often face challenges with accuracy and stability that curtail their practical applications. To address these issues, we have innovatively applied a three-dimensional porous aerogel composed of TiCT MXene and reduced graphene oxide (MX-rGO) in electrochemical sensing.

Purpose: To develop and compare 3 different machine learning-based models of clinical information and integrated radiomics features predicting the local recurrence of Stage Ia lung adenocarcinoma after microwave ablation (MWA) for assisting clinical decision making.

Materials And Methods: The data of 360 patients with Stage Ia lung adenocarcinoma who underwent MWA were included in the training (n = 208), internal test (n = 90), and external test (n = 62) sets based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The predictors associated with local recurrence were identified using univariate and multivariate analyses of clinical information.

BACKGROUND Long-term clinical practice has suggested a possible association between ossification of cervical ligament (OCL) and primary osteoporosis (POP). However, there is a lack of relevant research data. This study aimed to clarify the potential relationship between OCL and POP, and propose new strategies for preventing the onset of POP.

Organoid technology has been developed rapidly in the past decade, which involves the exploration of the mechanism of development, regeneration and various diseases, and intersects among multiple disciplines. Thousands of literature on 3D-culture or organoids have been published in the research areas of cell biology tissue engineering, nanoscience, oncology and so on, resulting in it being challenging for researchers to timely summarize these studies. Bibliometric statistics is a helpful way to help researchers clarify the above issues efficiently and manage the whole landscape systematically.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are a subset of cells with self-renewal ability and tumor generating potential. Accumulated evidence has revealed that CSCs were shown to contribute to tumorigenesis, metastasis, recurrence and resistance to chemoradiotherapy. Therefore, CSCs were regarded as promising therapeutic targets in cancer.

Background: Hepatobiliary cancer (HBC), including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and biliary tract cancer (BTC), is currently one of the malignant tumors that mainly cause human death. Many HBCs are diagnosed in the late stage, which increases the disease burden, indicating that effective prevention strategies and identification of risk factors are urgent. Many studies have reported the role of thyroid hormones on HBC.

Objective: Unilateral biportal endoscopic decompression (UBED) offers the advantages of minimal tissue damage, operational flexibility, and clear visualization, positioning it as an innovative and minimally invasive endoscopic technique. Nevertheless, the clinical evidence supporting the use of UBED in the treatment of degenerative lumbar diseases is limited and conflicting.

Methods: As of October 1, 2023, a comprehensive search was conducted across databases including Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, and the Cochrane Library to identify all published studies on minimally invasive UBED for the treatment of degenerative lumbar diseases.

Purpose: Persistent descending mesocolon (PDM) increases the difficulty and colonic ischemia in the surgery of colorectal cancer, but the preoperative diagnostic criteria have not yet been clearly demonstrated. This study explored the MR imaging features and diagnostic criteria of PDM to improve the preoperative diagnostic rate.

Methods: The clinical data of 54 patients with PDM and 270 patients without PDM who underwent rectal surgery at the Department of Colorectal Surgery, Fujian Medical University Union Hospital, from March 2018 to December 2022 were analyzed, retrospectively.

Background:  Deep circumflex iliac artery (DCIA)-vascularized iliac graft transposition is a method for treating femoral head osteonecrosis but with inconsistent efficacy. We aim to improve the method of this surgery by recommending the optimal location of the iliac pedicle to satisfy the vascular length for transposition and the blood supply of the vascularized iliac graft.

Methods:  The DCIA and its surrounding tissues were assessed on computed tomography angiography images for 100 sides (left and right) of 50 patients.

Background: This study aimed to measure and present a comprehensive overview of the association of antipsychotic drugs and venous thromboembolism (VTE) in the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS). Method: All VTE cases treated with antipsychotic drugs as primary suspected medicines were extracted from the FAERS database from 2004 to 2021. Disproportionality analyses were conducted by estimating the reporting odds ratio (ROR) and the information component (IC).

Purpose: Evidence suggests that neurotrophic tyrosine receptor kinase () gene fusions in solid tumors are predictive biomarkers for targeted inhibition across a number of adult and pediatric tumor types. However, despite robust clinical response to tyrosine receptor kinase (TRK) inhibitors, the natural history and prognostic implications of fusions in solid tumors are poorly understood. It is important to evaluate their prognostic significance on survival to provide some context to the clinical effectiveness observed in clinical trials of TRK-targeted therapies.

  • Drying methods like freeze-drying, infrared drying, hot-air drying, and pulsed vacuum drying were tested on fresh bee pollen to assess their effects on lipid quality and oxidation.
  • Infrared and hot-air drying were the fastest but caused the most lipid oxidation, while freeze-drying had the least impact on lipid profiles and degradation.
  • A total of 1541 lipid metabolites were identified, with glycerophospholipids being the most prevalent; specific metabolic pathways were linked to lipid oxidation during the drying process.

Background: Both genetic and environmental factors strongly affect serum uric acid (SUA) concentrations. The incidence of hyperuricemia tends to be younger in the Chinese population. In particular, we have found a high prevalence of hyperuricemia among Chinese flight attendants, aged from 20 to 40, in our survey.

The role of 5-methylcytosine-related long noncoding RNAs (m5C-lncRNAs) in bladder cancer (BLCA) remains unclear. Here, we aim to study the prognostic value, gene expression characteristics, and correlation between the m5C-lncRNA risk model and the tumor microenvironment, immune infiltration, and tumor mutations in BLCA. After collecting BLCA patient RNA sequence transcriptome data, clinical information and mutation data from the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, 17 m5C-related lncRNAs independently correlated with OS were obtained by Lasso and multivariate Cox regression analysis, and a risk model was constructed.
