Association analysis of polymorphisms of the CRHR1 gene with infantile spasms.

While >200 types of etiologies have been shown to be involved in the pathogenesis of infantile spasms, the pathophysiology of infantile spasms remains largely elusive. Pre-natal stress and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis dysfunction were shown to be involved in the development of infantile spasms. To test the genetic association between the CRHR1 gene, which encodes the corticotrophin-releasing hormone (CRH) receptor, and infantile spasms, five single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the CRHR1 gene were genotyped in a sample set of 128 cases with infantile spasms and 131 healthy controls.

Enhance Cancer Cell Recognition and Overcome Drug Resistance Using Hyaluronic Acid and α-Tocopheryl Succinate Based Multifunctional Nanoparticles.

Multidrug resistance (MDR) presents a clinical obstacle to cancer chemotherapy. The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential of a hyaluronic acid (HA) and α-tocopheryl succinate (α-TOS) based nanoparticle to enhance cancer cell recognition and overcome MDR, and to explore the underlying mechanisms. A multifunctional nanoparticle, HTTP-50 NP, consisted of HA-α-TOS (HT) conjugate and d-α-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol succinate (TPGS) with docetaxel loaded in its hydrophobic core.

[Clinical effect of arthroscopic debridement and infusion-drainage on septic arthritis after arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction].

Objective: To investigate therapeutic strategy on septic arthritis after arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

Methods: The clinical data of 6 cases of septic arthritis after arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction in our department from March 2005 to February 2014 were analyzed. All the patients were male,ranging in age from 18 to 36 years old.

Objective: To explore the effectiveness of hamstring tendon graft embedding reconstruction of medial patellofemoral ligament for the treatment of recurrent dislocation of the patella.

Methods: From March 2008 to June 2013,67 patients with recurrent dislocation of patella were treated, including 28 males, 39 females with an average age of 22 years ranging from 10 to 42 years old. Relative Contributions of Land Use and Climate Change to Water Supply Variations over Yellow River Source Area in Tibetan Plateau during the Past Three Decades.

There is increasing evidence of environmental change impacts on ecosystem processes and services, yet poor understanding of the relative contributions of land use and climate change to ecosystem services variations. Based on detailed meteorological, hydrological records and satellite data over the Yellow River Source Area (YRSA) in Tibetan Plateau from 1980s to 2008, together with a water-yield module of Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs (InVEST) model and also a Residual Trends (RESTREND) method, we assessed the water supply variations in YRSA during the past three decades and disentangled the relative contributions of land use and climate change. Results show that water supply significantly decreased from 1980 to 2005 and then increased from 2005 to 2008.

Roles of ligand and TPGS of micelles in regulating internalization, penetration and accumulation against sensitive or resistant tumor and therapy for multidrug resistant tumors.

There are several obstacles in the process of successful treatment of malignant tumors, including toxicity to normal cells, inefficiency of drug permeation and accumulation into the deep tissue of solid tumor, and multidrug resistance (MDR). In this work, we prepared docetaxel (DTX)-loaded hybrid micelles with DSPE-PEG and TPGS (TPGS/DTX-M), where TPGS serves as an effective P-gp inhibitor for overcoming MDR, and active targeting hybrid micelles (FA@TPGS/DTX-M) with targeting ligand of folate on the hybrid micelles surface offering active targeting to folate receptor-overexpressed tumor cells. A systematic comparative evaluation of these micelles on cellular internalization, sub-cellular distribution, antiproliferation, mitochondrial membrane potential, cell apoptosis and cell cycle, permeation and inhibition on 3-dimensional multicellular tumor spheroids, as well as antitumor efficacy and safety assay in vivo were well performed between sensitive KB tumors and resistant KBv tumors, and among P-gp substrate or not.

Antitumor activity of 4-O-(2″-O-acetyl-6″-O-p-coumaroyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl)-p-coumaric acid against lung cancers via mitochondrial-mediated apoptosis.

This study was aimed to investigate antitumor activity of 4-O-(2″-O-acetyl-6″-O-p-coumaroyl-β-D-glucopyranosyl)-p-coumaric acid (4-ACGC) against lung cancer and its mechanisms. The anti-proliferative effects of 4-ACGC on lung cancer cell lines including A549, NCI-H1299, HCC827 were evaluated by MTT method and the IC50 values were calculated, and subsequently a mice xenograft model of A549 was established to investigate the antitumor effect of 4-ACGC in vivo. Furthermore, the apoptosis of the A549 cells was determined by fluorescence microscope by staining with Hoechst 33324 and flow cytometer by staining with FITC conjugated Annexin V/PI, and the further mechanisms were investigated by Western blotting.

Background/aims: This study aims to estimate the value of embryonal natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery (ENOTES) as a treatment for severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) complicated by abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS).

Recurrent syncope attributed to left main coronary artery severe stenosis.

Patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS) rarely manifest as recurrent syncope due to malignant ventricular arrhythmia. We report a case of a 56-year-old Chinese male with complaints of paroxysmal chest burning sensation and distress for 2 weeks as well as loss of consciousness for 3 days. The electrocardiogram (ECG) revealed paroxysmal multimorphologic ventricular tachycardia during attack and normal heart rhythm during intervals.

(Arecaceae), widely distributed in South and Southeast Asia, is a popular traditional herbal medicine that can be chewed for the purpose of dispersing accumulated fluid in the abdominal cavity and killing worms. The present paper aims to provide an up-to-date review on the traditional uses and advances in the botany, phytochemistry, pharmacology and toxicology of this plant.

Essential role of mitochondrial energy metabolism in Foxp3⁺ T-regulatory cell function and allograft survival.

Conventional T (Tcon) cells and Foxp3(+) T-regulatory (Treg) cells are thought to have differing metabolic requirements, but little is known of mitochondrial functions within these cell populations in vivo. In murine studies, we found that activation of both Tcon and Treg cells led to myocyte enhancer factor 2 (Mef2)-induced expression of genes important to oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). Inhibition of OXPHOS impaired both Tcon and Treg cell function compared to wild-type cells but disproportionally affected Treg cells.

Arthroscopic surgical treatment for neglected congenital muscular torticollis in adults.

Background: Congenital muscular torticollis (CMT) is the third most common congenital musculoskeletal anomaly. The efficacy of surgical treatment of neglected CMT after skeletal maturity in adults remains controversial. The aim of this retrospective study was to determine the efficacy of arthroscopic release of the sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle for the treatment of neglected CMT in adult cases.

[Treatment of chronic large osteochondral fracture of femoral condyle with absorbable pins under arthroscopy].

Objective: To evaluate clinical effects of fixation of chronic large osteochondral fragment in the weight-bearing area of femoral condyle using absorbable pins under arthroscopy.

Methods: From March 2007 to December 2011, 6 patients with chronic large osteochondral fractures of femoral condyle were treated with absorbable pins under arthroscopy. Among the patients, there were 4 males and 2 females, ranging in age from 14 to 48 years old, and the courses of disease ranged from 4 to 26 weeks.

Efficacy and safety of a mammalian target of rapamycin inhibitor in pediatric patients with tuberous sclerosis complex: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Inhibitors of mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) are increasingly used as therapy for pediatric patients with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). The uncertainty over the efficacy and safety of mTOR inhibitor therapy for the treatment of pediatric patients with TSC emphasizes the necessity for a synthesis of existing evidence. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of mTOR inhibitor therapy for the treatment of pediatric patients with TSC.

Personalized biomarkers to monitor disease progression in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer patients treated with icotinib.

Background: Disease-specific humoral immune response-related protein complexes in blood are associated with disease progression.

Methods: Thirty-one patients with stage IIIB and IV non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were administered with oral dose of icotinib hydrochloride (150 mg twice daily or 125 mg 3 times daily) for a 28-continuous-day cycle until diseases progressed or unacceptable toxicity occurred. The levels of immunoinflammation-related protein complexes (IIRPCs) in a series of plasma samples from 31 NSCLC patients treated with icotinib hydrochloride were determined by an optimized native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.

Complete mitochondrial genome of Goniurosaurus luii (Squamata, Eublepharidae).

The complete mitochondrial genome sequence of Goniurosaurus luii has been determined in the present paper. The genome was 16,519 bp in length and contained 13 protein-coding genes, 2 rRNA genes, 22 tRNA genes and 1 control region (CR). Its gene composition and order was similar to most other Squamate reptiles.
