Background: Clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula (CR-POPF) is a common complication after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). However, whether irrigation-suction (IS) decreases the incidence and severity of CR-POPF has not yet been well elucidated.

Methods: One hundred and twenty patients with planned PD were enrolled in the study at a high-volume pancreatic center in China from August 2018 to January 2020.
