In this study, the catalytic performances of palladium supported on chitosan (Pd@CS) membrane heterogeneous catalysts have been studied from the aspects of free volume by positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy (PALS). The results showed that the variation in free volume hole size of the Pd@CS membrane catalyst was closely associated with microstructure evolutions, such as increase of Pd content, valence transition of Pd by reduction treatment, solvent swelling, physical aging during catalyst recycling, and so on. The PALS results showed that both the mean free volume hole size of the Pd@CS membrane in the dry or swollen state (analyzed by the LT program) and its distribution (analyzed by the MELT program) are smaller than the molecule size of the reactants and products in the catalysis reaction.

Trastuzumab, a HER2-targeting antibody, combined with chemotherapy has been successfully employed for the gastric cancer patients with HER2 overexpression/amplification. However, trastuzumab resistance is a major problem in clinical practice.

Yes-associated protein (YAP) contributes to the development of multiple tumors, but the post-transcription modulation of YAP remains unexplored. Here, we present a new regulatory microRNA of YAP, miR-361, which directly targets YAP to inhibit cell proliferation in lung cancer. We used bioinformatics to predict that miR-361 could target 3'-untranslated region (3'UTR) of YAP mRNA.

Background: Ectopic pregnancy (EP) refers to the implantation of the zygote outside the uterine cavity. In clinical practice, the diagnosis of EP relies on a combination of ultrasound findings and serum human chorionic gonadotrophin (hCG) measurements. However, the need for serial hCG measurements increases the risk of tubal rupture and death, underscoring the need to identify biomarkers for the early detection of EP.

We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to compare the rate of HBV reactivation in CHC patients coinfected with overt HBV (hepatitis B surface antigen [HBsAg] positive) and occult HBV (HBsAg negative with positive HBV DNA) infection separately, treated with interferon (IFN)-based therapy to those with pan-oral DAAs. The primary outcome was HBV reactivation, and the secondary outcomes included hepatitis due to HBV reactivation, sustained virologic response (SVR) for CHC, loss of HBV DNA and HBsAg seroclearance.

Genetic studies in Pima Indians have linked acyl-CoA dehydrogenase 10 (ACAD10) gene polymorphisms, among others, to this predisposition. The gene codes for a protein with a C-terminus region that is structurally similar to members of a family of flavoenzymes-the acyl-CoA dehydrogenases (ACADs)-that catalyze α,β-dehydrogenation reactions, including the first step in mitochondrial FAO (FAO), and intermediary reactions in amino acids catabolism.

Here, we investigate the role of two mechanisms for polarization conversion by plasmonic antennas: Structural asymmetry and plasmon hybridization through strong coupling. As a model system we investigate L-shaped antennas consisting of two orthogonal nanorods which lengths and coupling strength can be independently controlled.

Methods: Twenty-five nude mice were randomly divided into 5 groups (A-E). Subcutaneous xenograft of human MGC803 cells was transplanted to nude mice, followed by different treatments for the groups, including A (bevacizumab combined with chemotherapy), B (24-h chemotherapy with FP followed by bevacizumab), C (bevacizumab 24-h followed by FP chemotherapy), D (bevacizumab only) and E (normal saline).
N-Myc is a global transcription factor that regulates the expression of genes involved in a number of essential cellular processes including: ribosome biogenesis, cell cycle and apoptosis. Upon deregulation, N-Myc can drive pathologic expression of many of these genes, which ultimately defines its oncogenic potential. Overexpression of N-Myc has been demonstrated to contribute to tumorigenesis, most notably for the pediatric tumor, neuroblastoma.

Metal nanoparticles, once supported by a suitable scaffolding material, can be used as highly efficient heterogeneous catalysts for numerous organic reactions. The challenge, though, is to mitigate the continuous loss of metals from the supporting materials as reactions proceed, so that the catalysts can be recycled multiple times. Herein, we combine the excellent chelating property of chitosan (CS) and remarkable stability of montmorillonite (MMT) into a composite material to support metal catalysts such as palladium (Pd).
