Acupuncture alleviates inflammatory pain by activating CXCL1/CXCR2 signaling in the primary somatosensory cortex in adjuvant induced arthritis rats.

Objectives: To observe whether acupuncture up-regulates chemokine CXC ligand 1 (CXCL1) in the brain to play an analgesic role through CXCL1/chemokine CXC receptor 2 (CXCR2) signaling in adjuvant induced arthritis (AIA) rats, so as to reveal its neuro-immunological mechanism underlying improvement of AIA.

Methods: BALB/c mice with relatively stable thermal pain reaction were subjected to planta injection of complete Freund adjuvant (CFA) for establishing AIA model, followed by dividing the AIA mice into simple AF750 (fluorochrome) and AF750+CXCL1 groups (=2 in each group). AF750 labeled CXCL1 recombinant protein was then injected into the mouse's tail vein to induce elevation of CXCL1 level in blood for simulating the effect of acupuncture stimulation which has been demonstrated by our past study.

A Good Prognosis of Patients with Acute Pancreatitis Combined with Pulmonary Embolism: Early Identification and Intervention.

Background: Pulmonary embolism (PE) is a relatively rare vascular complication of acute pancreatitis (AP), and its mortality rate is high. To our knowledge, relevant literature reports still need to be summarized. In this study, we analyzed the clinical characteristics, treatment, and prognosis of five patients with AP complicated by PE and summarized and reviewed the relevant literature.

[Progress of researches on acupuncture-moxibustion treatment of cartilage damage of osteoarthritis].

Cartilage damage is the key pathological mechanism in the progressive development of osteoarthritis(OA). Slowing down cartilage damage and accelerating cartilage repair are strategies for effective treatment of OA. Acupuncture and moxibustion therapies are widely used in relieving symptoms of OA and have a protective effect on cartilage.

Although the basic mechanism of acupuncture-moxibustion has been revealed from many aspects, there are still many shackles in the transformation of the related research achievements. The transformation of academic achievements of experimental acupunctology is an urgent issue to be solved at present. Network regulation is the basic action mode of acupuncture therapy.

Adjustment Disorder in Female Breast Cancer Patients: Prevalence and Its Accessory Symptoms.

Women diagnosed with breast cancer may have serious psychological problems and will suffer from adjustment disorder (AjD). We investigated the prevalence of AjD in female breast cancer patients who were diagnosed within 1 year and examined the severe life events they experienced, and the most common symptoms of AjD. 342 newly diagnosed (<1 year) female breast cancer patients were recruited from Tongji Hospital and Hubei Cancer Hospital in Hubei, China, from July 2018 to May 2019.

Human hepatocellular adenoma as a promising cell source for bioartificial liver systems.

The present study assessed human hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) as a potential source of biological material for bioartificial liver (BAL) systems. The histological characteristics of HCA tissues from 8 patients were examined using hematoxylin and eosin staining. The glycogen synthesis capacity of HCA cells was assessed using Periodic Acid-Schiff (PAS) staining and the expression of genes involved in liver function were examined using immunohistochemical staining (IHC) and reverse transcription-quantitative PCR analysis.

Current Tracking on Effectiveness and Mechanisms of Acupuncture Therapy: A Literature Review of High-Quality Studies.

The scientific evidence of acupuncture studies has been improved in recent years, and one of the important manifestations is that more and more acupuncture clinical trials and mechanism researches have been published in the source periodicals of Science Citation Index (SCI). This study summarized the dominant diseases of acupuncture focusing on of acupuncture efficacy and mechanisms, and discussed the existing problems, highlighting the direction of future developments. Most clinical studies were published in journals with journal impact factor (JIF) score of 10 or above, and majority of the basic researches had JIF scores of 5 to 10.

Five-year incidence and progression of myopic maculopathy in a rural Chinese adult population: the Handan Eye Study.

Purpose: To determine the cumulative five-year incidence and progression of myopic maculopathy in a rural Chinese adult population.

Methods: The Handan Eye Study was a population-based longitudinal study. In 2006, 6830 subjects aged 30+ years participated in this study (baseline).

Intraocular Pressure and Glaucomatous Optic Neuropathy in High Myopia.

Purpose: To examine the association between intraocular pressure (IOP) and the prevalence of glaucomatous optic neuropathy (GON) in high myopia.

Methods: The hospital-based observational study consisted of patients treated in the Tokyo High Myopia Clinics and for whom fundus photographs and IOP readings were available. The appearance of the optic nerve head on fundus photographs was the basis for the definition of GON.

Grifolin, a secondary metabolite isolated from the fresh fruiting bodies of the mushroom Albatrellus confluens, has been shown to induce G1 phase cell-cycle arrest in tumor cells in previous studies of our group. However, the mechanisms of action are not completely understood. Our group further demonstrated that grifolin upregulates death-associated protein kinase 1 (DAPK1) in nasopharyngeal carcinoma cells (NPCs).
