Objective: To assess the association between polymorphisms of insulin-like growth factor receptor (IGF-1R and IGF-2R) and genetic susceptibility and non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
Methods: A case-control study of 260 patients with NSCLC and 258 cancer-free subjects from Fujian was carried out. Genotypes of polymorphisms of IGF-1R +1013 and IGF-2R +1619 were determined by DNA sequencing and polymerase chain reaction-restrictive fragment length polymorphism.
Lots of potential: a trifluoromethylated corannulene, C(5)-C(20)H(5)(CF(3))(5), has been prepared and characterized spectroscopically and by X-ray crystallography. The structure exhibits a highly ordered bowl stacking that is unusual for corannulenes with acyclic substituents. The first reduction of C(5)-C(20)H(5)(CF(3))(5) is anodically shifted by 0.

Single crystal synchrotron X-ray diffraction measurements have been carried out on [Nd(DMF)(4)(H(2)O)(3)(μ-CN)Fe(CN)(5)]·H(2)O (DMF = dimethyl-formamide), 1; [Y(DMF)(4)(H(2)O)(3)(μ-CN)Fe(CN)(5)]·H(2)O, 2; [Ce(DMF)(4)(H(2)O)(3)(μ-CN)Fe(CN)(5)]·H(2)O, 3; [Sm(DMF)(4)(H(2)O)(3)(μ-CN)Fe(CN)(5)]·H(2)O, 4; [Tb(DMF)(4)(H(2)O)(3)(μ-CN)Fe(CN)(5)]·H(2)O, 5; [Yb(DMF)(4)(H(2)O)(3)(μ-CN)Fe(CN)(5)]·H(2)O, 6; and [Nd(DMF)(4)(H(2)O)(3)(μ-CN)Co(CN)(5)]·H(2)O, 7, at 15(2) K with and without UV illumination of the crystals. Significant changes in unit cell parameters are observed for all of the iron-containing complexes, while compound 7 shows no response to UV illumination. These results are consistent with previous results and are furthermore reproduced by powder synchrotron X-ray diffraction for compounds 1 and 7.

A high density of 16 open copper sites confined within a nanoscopic polyhedral cage has been achieved, and the packing of the porphyrin cages via an "ABAB" pattern affords MMPF-1 ultramicropores which render it selective toward adsorption of H(2) and O(2) over N(2), and CO(2) over CH(4).

Hirshfeld surface analysis reveals subtle close contacts between two interconnecting HQ networks, and the local packing and related close contacts were examined by breakdown of the fingerprint plot. An experimental multipole model containing anisotropic thermal parameters for hydrogen atoms has been successfully refined against 15(2) K single microcrystal synchrotron X-ray diffraction data.

Significant structural changes are observed around the Fe site in the excited state. These changes are similar to those observed for a related molecular compound exhibiting photomagnetic properties.

Both ED and ELI can be obtained from theoretical calculations as well as high-resolution X-ray diffraction experiments. Besides ED and ELI descriptors, the delocalization index is used here; it is likewise derived from theoretical calculations as well as from experimental X-ray results, but in the latter case, demonstrated here for the first time.

A proinsulin-transferrin (ProINS-Tf) recombinant fusion protein was designed and characterized for the sustained release of an active form of insulin (INS) by hepatoma cells. During incubation with H4IIE hepatoma cells, a gradual decline of ProINS-Tf concentration, with a concomitant generation of the immuno-reactive insulin-transferrin (irINS-Tf), was detected in the culture medium by using INS- or proinsulin (ProINS)-specific radioimmunoassay (RIA) system. Further studies indicated that the conversion of ProINS-Tf to irINS-Tf was a transferrin receptor (TfR) mediated process that was pH-sensitive, and temperature- and microtubule-dependent.

All reliability issues can be estimated by the conduction of the high resistance state (HRS). The conduction current of the HRS exponentially increases as the square root of the applied voltage, which is well explained by 'quasi-Poole-Frenkel-type' trap assistant tunneling.

Objective: To explore the in vivo inhibitory effect of Livin gene silencing by RNA interference on xenograft of lung adenocarcinoma SPC-A-1 cells in BALB/C nude mice.
Methods: Three different BALB/C nude mice models were established by subcutaneously inoculating differently treated SPC-A-1 cells into 3 nude mice groups: the blank control group was inoculated with blank SPC-A-1 cells, while the negative group was inoculated with cells transfected with lentivirus-delivered negative shRNA, the experimental group was inoculated with cells with lentivirus-delivered Livin shRNA. Then the growth of tumors was observed, and the volume and weight of the tumors were measured at different time points.
A family of highly stable (poly)perfluoroalkylated metallic nitride cluster fullerenes was prepared in high-temperature reactions and characterized by spectroscopic (MS, (19)F NMR, UV-vis/NIR, ESR), structural and electrochemical methods. For two new compounds, Sc(3)N@C(80)(CF(3))(10) and Sc(3)N@C(80)(CF(3))(12,) single crystal X-ray structures are determined. Addition pattern guidelines for endohedral fullerene derivatives with bulky functional groups are formulated as a result of experimental ((19)F NMR spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction) studies and exhaustive quantum chemical calculations of the structures of Sc(3)N@C(80)(CF(3))(n) (n = 2-16).

The ferric uptake regulator Fur has been reported to repress the expression of rmpA, a regulatory gene for the mucoid phenotype, leading to decreased capsular polysaccharide (CPS) biosynthesis in Klebsiella pneumoniae CG43. Here, quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) analyses and electrophoretic mobility shift assays showed that Fur also repressed the expression of the CPS regulatory genes rmpA2 and rcsA. Interestingly, deletion of rmpA or rcsA but not rmpA2 from the Δfur strain was able to suppress the deletion effect of Fur.

We apply this technique to the problem of Zn-Cu chemical disorder in ZnCu(3)(OH)(6)Cl(2). This geometrically frustrated kagomé antiferromagnet is one of the best candidates for a spin-liquid ground state, but chemical disorder has been suggested as a mundane explanation for its magnetic properties.

The accuracy that can be achieved in single-pulse pump-probe Laue experiments is discussed. It is shown that with careful tuning of the experimental conditions a reproducibility of the intensity ratios of equivalent intensities obtained in different measurements of 3-4% can be achieved. The single-pulse experiments maximize the time resolution that can be achieved and, unlike stroboscopic techniques in which the pump-probe cycle is rapidly repeated, minimize the temperature increase due to the laser exposure of the sample.

Objective: to investigate the clinical features of 127 cases of the novel influenza A/H1N1 infection in Fujian Province.
Methods: this study included 127 human cases with the novel influenza A/H1N1 infection in Fujian Province from May 2009 to July 2009. Data were collected and reviewed from hospital medical records.
Definitive experimental results on the geometry of fleeting species are at the time of writing still limited to monochromatic data collection, but methods for modifications of the polychromatic Laue data to increase their accuracy and their suitability for pump-probe experiments have been implemented and are reviewed. In the monochromatic experiments summarized, excited-state conversion percentages are small when neat crystals are used, but are higher when photoactive species are embedded in an inert framework in supramolecular crystals. With polychromatic techniques and increasing source brightness, smaller samples down to tenths of a micrometre or less can be used, increasing homogeneity of exposure and the fractional population of the excited species.
