Background: The aim of this study is to assess the clinical efficacy of the self-formulated Ergan Tang on managing paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) characterized by qi-yin deficiency among elderly patients.

Methods: A cohort of 40 elderly patients diagnosed with paroxysmal AF who spontaneously reverted to sinus rhythm were enrolled based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. These participants were randomly divided into two groups: self-formulated Ergan Tang group and amiodarone group.

The catalytic asymmetric diastereodivergent synthesis of axially chiral 2-alkenylindoles was established via chiral phosphoric acid-catalyzed addition reactions of C3-unsubstituted 2-alkenylindoles with -hydroxybenzyl alcohols under different reaction conditions. Using this strategy, two series of 2-alkenylindoles bearing both axial and central chirality were synthesized in a diastereodivergent fashion with moderate to high yields and good stereoselectivities (up to 99% yield, 95:5 er, >95:5 dr). Moreover, theoretical calculations were performed on the key transition states leading to different stereoisomers, which provided an in-depth understanding of the origin of the observed stereoselectivity and diastereodivergence of the products under different reaction conditions.

The catalytic atroposelective synthesis of N-N axially chiral indolylamides was established via dynamic kinetic resolution, which makes use of chiral Lewis base-catalyzed asymmetric acylation of -acylaminoindoles as a new type of platform molecule with anhydrides. By this strategy, a series of N-N axially chiral indolylamides were synthesized in overall good yields (up to 98%) with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee). Moreover, some of these N-N axially chiral indolylamides display some extent of anticancer activity, which demonstrates their potential application in medicinal chemistry.

The first organocatalytic diastereoselective (4 + 1) cycloaddition of -hydroxyphenyl-substituted secondary phosphine oxides (SPOs) has been established, which makes use of -hydroxyphenyl substituted SPOs as suitable four-atom phosphorus-containing 1,4-dinucleophiles and 3-indolylformaldehydes as competent 1,1-dielectrophiles under Bro̷nsted acid catalysis. The reaction mechanism was suggested to involve the formation of 3-indolylmethanol intermediates and vinyliminium intermediates, which played an important role in controlling the reactivity and diastereoselectivity of the (4 + 1) cycloaddition under Bro̷nsted acid catalysis. By this approach, a series of benzo oxaphospholes bearing - and -stereocenters were synthesized in moderate to good yields (50%-95% yields) with excellent diastereoselectivities (all >95:5 dr).

The rapidly increasing use of high-throughput screening had produced a plethora of expanding knowledge on the molecular basis of natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (NKTCL), which in turn has revolutionized the treatment. Specifically, the use of asparaginase-containing regimens has led to substantial improvement in survival outcomes in NKTCL patients. Novel treatment strategies that are currently under development include cell-surface-targeted antibodies, immune checkpoint inhibitors, Epstein-Barr virus targeted cytotoxic T lymphocyte, immunomodulatory agents, chimeric antigen receptor T cells, signaling pathway inhibitors and epigenetic targeted agents.
