Background And Aim: The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a significant adverse effect on the mental health of healthcare professionals. This study aims to assess the effects of the prolonged pandemic on burnout and mood disorders and to evaluate the influence of positive vaccination beliefs on these factors at a medical center during the extended COVID-19 pandemic.

Methods: This retrospective study analyzed the results of an online questionnaire survey including burnout status and mood disorders from 2020 to 2022.

The present study aimed to elucidate the prognostic mutation signature (PMS) associated with long-term survival in a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) cohort. All data including derivation and validation cohorts were retrospectively retrieved from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database and whole-exome sequencing (WES) data. The Lasso Cox regression analysis was used to construct the PMS based on WES data, and the PMS was determined using the area under the receiver operating curve (AUC).

Background And Aims: It is currently unclear whether the nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) fibrosis score, when compared to major anthropometric indices, is useful in estimating the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).

Methods And Results: This study included 3886 adults undergoing a health checkup. An elevated risk of ASCVD was determined as a 10-year ASCVD risk ≥7.

To evaluate early preventive dental services (PDS) provided by primary care providers (PCPs) in reducing future caries treatments among Alabama Medicaid recipients. Data from 2009 to 2019 Alabama Medicaid were used to evaluate effectiveness of 1st Look Program on PDS before age three years and incidence of caries treatments after age three years. PDS groups consisted of 1st Look-involved (PDS claims from PCPs), dentist-only (PDS claims from dental providers), and no early fluoride treatment participants (no PDS claims before age three years).

Article Synopsis
  • Cisplatin is a common chemotherapy drug used for treating non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but its effectiveness is often reduced due to the development of resistance in cancer stem cell-like populations.
  • The study found that a combination of selenium yeast (Se-Y) and fish oil (FO) significantly enhances the apoptosis (programmed cell death) of resistant cancer cells, specifically A549 NSCLC sphere cells, by reversing their resistance to cisplatin.
  • This nutrient combination works by counteracting key molecular features associated with resistance and cancer stem cell properties, suggesting it could improve treatment outcomes for NSCLC patients receiving cisplatin.

The purpose of this study was to compare the chemical and physical properties of eight contemporary direct pulp capping materials. Materials included: calcium hydroxide-based (Dycal, Lime-Lite, and Ultra-Blend plus), bioceramic-based (MTA Angelus, Biodentine, TheraCal LC, Ceramir Protect LC), and resin ionomer-based materials (Bio-Cap). Calcium release and pH changes were measured after one, seven, 28, and 90 days in 36.

Background: Unscheduled emergency department return visits (EDRVs) are key indicators for monitoring the quality of emergency medical care. A high return rate implies that the medical services provided by the emergency department (ED) failed to achieve the expected results of accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. Older adults are more susceptible to diseases and comorbidities than younger adults, and they exhibit unique and complex clinical characteristics that increase the difficulty of clinical diagnosis and treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigated various cardiometabolic indices to determine their effectiveness in estimating atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk among 3,143 Taiwanese adults aged 20-79 years.
  • Elevated ASCVD risk was defined as a 10-year risk of ≥7.5%, and the performance of different indices was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves.
  • The Chinese visceral adiposity index (CVAI) showed the best performance in predicting ASCVD risk, particularly with the highest area under the curve for both genders, while traditional measures like BMI performed less effectively.

Background: Listening to music can be a noninvasive method for reducing the anxiety level without any adverse effects. The aim of this study was to explore whether music can reduce anxiety and to compare two different styles of music, informal classical music and light music, to ascertain the more effective style of music in reducing anxiety in patients undergoing colonoscopy without sedation.

Methods: This study enrolled 138 patients who underwent colonoscopy without sedation during a general health examination from February 2009 to January 2015.

Chronic infection by hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major risk factor for the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Despite the clear clinical importance of virus-associated HCC, the underlying molecular mechanisms remain largely unclarified. Oxidative stress, in particular, DNA lesions associated with oxidative damage, plays a major role in carcinogenesis, and is strongly linked to the development of many cancers, including HCC.
