Lipid reprogramming in carcinoma is reported to have a role in carcinogenesis, prognosis and therapy response. The lipid reprogramming could be contributed by either autonomous or nonautonomous resources. Since the nonautonomous lipid resources contributed by lipoproteins and their receptors have been reported in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), the impact of autonomous lipid metabolites was unknown.

To evaluate the effectiveness of TBDESJS (Chun-Yu-Ching-Hua-Yin, CYCHY), a TCM tea bag, in treating SJS and DES patients compared with healthy controls (NHC).
Materials And Methods: This phase II pilot study included 100 participants (60 SJS, 30 DES, 10 NHC) across 8 weeks, assessing changes in Schirmer's test, OSDI, ESSPRI, PSQI, FIRST, and artificial tear usage, using repeated measurement ANOVA and Tukey's honestly significant difference (HSD) for analysis.
The dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) through plasmids is a major mechanism for the development of bacterial antimicrobial resistance. The adaptation and evolution mechanisms of multidrug-resistant (MDR) plasmids with their hosts are not fully understood. Herein, we conducted experimental evolution of a 244 kb MDR plasmid (pJXP9) under various conditions including no antibiotics and mono- or combinational drug treatments of colistin (CS), cefotaxime (CTX), and ciprofloxacin (CIP).

The capacity for biofilm formation has been proposed to contribute to the persistence of this fungal pathogen on catheter surfaces. While efforts have been devoted to identifying microbial factors that modulate C.

Previous studies have hinted at the oncogenic properties of the Fc fragment of IgG binding protein (FCGBP) in various cancers; however, its clinical significance in rectal cancer remains unclear. In this study, we first conducted an analysis of a public transcriptome comprising 46 rectal cancer patients.

Intriguingly, pathogens hijack this host pathway during infection, but the role of MST1/2 in innate immune cells against pathogens is unclear. In this report, we generated knockout macrophages to investigate the regulatory activities of the Hippo kinases in immunity.

In this study, we characterized DCAR_032551, the candidate gene of the Y locus responsible for the transition of root color from ancestral white to yellow during carrot (Daucus carota) domestication. We show that DCAR_032551 encodes a REPRESSOR OF PHOTOSYNTHETIC GENES (RPGE) protein, named DcRPGE1.

Methods: One end of the Gore-Tex suture is tied into the optic-haptic junction of the IOL.

Background: Sjögren's Syndrome (SS), mainly affecting women in their midlife, is characterized by persistent inflammation in glands producing tears and saliva, often leading to significant complications. This study investigates the differences in autonomic system functioning between individuals with SS and healthy controls.
Methods: From April 2019 to December 2022, 329 diagnosed primary SS (pSS) patients and 30 healthy controls were enrolled at Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taipei, Taiwan.
Small molecule compounds targeting multiple kinases involved in neoangiogenesis have shown survival benefits in patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Nonetheless, despite the beneficial effects of multikinase inhibitors (MKIs), a lack of boosting adjuvant limits their objective response rate. Lipid conjugates have been used to improve delivery efficacy or pharmaceutical benefits for decades.

In stroke pathogenesis, ischemia/reperfusion injury triggers gliosis and neuroinflammation that further activates matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), thereby damaging the blood-brain barrier (BBB). Increased BBB permeability promotes macrophage infiltration and brain edema, thereby worsening behavioral outcomes and prognosis.

Methods: Twenty-four volunteers were recruited and forty-eight eyes were divided into four groups of 1.0, 0.
Introduction: The aim of this study was to investigate the association of epiretinal traction in idiopathic lamellar macular hole (LMH) with or without lamellar hole-associated epiretinal proliferation (LHEP).
Methods: A retrospective consecutive case series included 108 eyes diagnosed with LMH in a single tertiary referral center. Epiretinal traction was determined by the presence of epiretinal membrane (ERM), attached posterior hyaloid, or vascular traction with multimodal imaging studies and intraoperative findings in those received surgical interventions.
Vaccination is considered to be the most effective countermeasure to prevent and combat the global health threats of COVID-19. People with obesity are at a greater risk of hospitalization, life-threatening illness, and adverse outcomes after having COVID-19. Therefore, a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine for obese individuals is urgently needed.

Mifepristone has a limited medical period that lasts <9 weeks of gestation, and the incidence of mifepristone treatment failure increases with gestation time. Mifepristone functions as an antagonist for progesterone and glucocorticoid receptors.

Moreover, its prevention and treatment situations have become increasingly severe. Therefore, it is imperative to develop alternatives or complementary drugs for preventing and treating osteoporosis.

Its associated symptoms are diverse among the patients, including hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance, anovulation, infertility, obesity, hirsutism, acne, and more. In addition, PCOS can potentially increase the risk of dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, endometrioma, and irritable bowel syndrome, which are highly related to pelvic pain and sexual difficulty.

In this study, we examined the impact of FADS1 and FADS2 genetic variants on plasma lipid status, and assessed interactions between FADS genetic polymorphisms and plasma n-3/n-6 fatty acids regarding lipid status within a population of 816 Taiwanese patients with type 2 diabetes.
Materials And Methods: Selected tag single-nucleotide polymorphisms (FADS1 rs174546 [T/C]; FADS2 rs174602 [A/G] and rs2072114 [A/G]) were genotyped (n = 816).
