The transition metal-catalysed dicarbofunctionalisation of unactivated alkenes normally requires exogenous strong coordinated directing groups, thus reducing the overall reaction efficiency. Here, we report a ligand-enabled Ni(II)-catalysed dicarbofunctionalisation of unactivated alkenes with aryl/alkenyl boronic acids and alkyl halides as the coupling partners with a diverse range of native functional groups as the directing group. This dicarbofunctionalisation protocol provides an efficient and direct route towards vicinal 1,2-disubstituted alkanes using primary, secondary, tertiary amides, sulfonamides, as well as secondary and tertiary amines under redox-neutral conditions that are challenging to access through conventional methods.

Here, we report the preparation of lactones via Ni-catalyzed alkene hydroxylarylation and sequential intramolecular lactonization with O as a green oxidant and oxygen source. The bulky 1,3-diketone ligand is crucial by enabling Ni-catalyzed hydroxylarylation of alkenes, providing numerous phthalide and furanone derivatives with high efficiency under mild conditions. The synthetic value of this methodology was further demonstrated by the efficient synthesis of typhaphthalide and a monoamine oxidase B inhibitor.

Reservoir computing is an effective model for learning and predicting nonlinear and chaotic dynamical systems; however, there remains a challenge in achieving a more dependable evolution for such systems. Based on the foundation of Koopman operator theory, considering the effectiveness of the sparse identification of nonlinear dynamics algorithm to construct candidate nonlinear libraries in the application of nonlinear data, an alternative reservoir computing method is proposed, which creates the linear Hilbert space of the nonlinear system by including nonlinear terms in the optimization process of reservoir computing, allowing for the application of linear optimization. We introduce an implementation that incorporates a polynomial transformation of arbitrary order when fitting the readout matrix.

The design and synthesis of advanced semiconductors is crucial for the full utilization of solar energy. Herein, colloidal selective-epitaxial hybrid of tripartite semiconducting sulfides CuInS Cd(In)SMoS heteronanostructures (HNs) via lateral- and vertical-epitaxial growths, followed by cation exchange reactions, are reported. The lateral-epitaxial CuInS and Cd(In)S enable effective visible to near-infrared (NIR) solar spectrum absorption, and the vertical-epitaxial ultrathin MoS offer sufficient edge sulfur sites for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER).

To date 29 BPH resistance genes have been identified, but only a few genes are being used in breeding due to inefficient markers for marker-assisted selection (MAS) and little knowledge of the real effects of the genes. Proteus syndrome (PS) is a rare and sporadic disorder characterized by overgrowth of multiple tissues and a propensity to develop particular neoplasms. The clinical manifestations of PS include macrodactyly, vertebral abnormalities, asymmetric limb overgrowth and length discrepancy, hyperostosis, abnormal and asymmetric fat distribution, asymmetric muscle development, connective tissue nevi, and vascular malformations. We report a 16-year old female patient who manifested a number of these complications and review the Chinese literature about the diagnosis, natural history, and management of PS.

We have developed a reliable in vitro zygotic embryogenesis system in tobacco. A single zygote of a dicotyledonous plant was able to develop into a fertile plant via direct embryogenesis with the aid of a co-culture system in which fertilized ovules were employed as feeders. The results confirmed that a tobacco zygote could divide in vitro following the basic embryogenic pattern of the Solanad type.
