Background: Ferroptosis can be used as a powerful predictor of cancer prognosis. HPV persistent infection is the main cause of cervical cancer, so it is very important to improve the prognosis of patients. Therefore, it is necessary to explore the value of HPV-ferroptosis related genes as prognostic biomarkers of cervical cancer patients.

Article Synopsis
  • - The total synthesis of the anti-tumor compound pongaflavone was achieved from 2,4-dihydroxyacetophenone in seven steps, yielding 16%.
  • - Two analogues of pongaflavone, pongachromene and another trihydroxyflavone, were also synthesized with yields of 11% and 18%, respectively.
  • - Preliminary tests on A549 cancer cells indicated varying anti-tumor activities, with pongachromene showing the most significant effect.

Kanjone (), a bioactive furanoflavone and a potent biomolecule, was first isolated from (L.). Herein, we have developed two approaches to synthesize kanjone as well as its natural analogues 6-methoxyisopongaglabol () and 6,3'-dimethoxy-[2″,3″:7,8]furanoflavone () starting from khellin and 3-hydroxy-4-methoxy-benzaldehyde, respectively.

In this study, we undertook the first complete mitochondrial genome. The genome sequence was 16,663 bp in length, including the typical structure of 22 transfer RNA genes, 13 protein-coding genes, 2 ribosomal RNA genes, and the non-coding control region. The overall base composition of mitogenome is 31.

Suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) is a key negative regulator of type I interferon (IFN α/β) signaling. Inhibition of SOCS3 by small molecules may be a new strategy to enhance the efficacy of type I IFN and reduce its side effects. We established a cell-based screening assay using human hepatoma HepG2 cells stably transfected with a plasmid wherein the luciferase reporter activity was propelled by interferon α-stimulated response element (ISRE), which is a motif specifically recognized by type I IFN-induced activation of Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) pathway.

Background: Type I interferons (IFN-α/β) have broad and potent immunoregulatory and antiproliferative activities. However, it is still known whether the dietary flavonoids exhibit their antiviral and anticancer properties by modulating the function of type I IFNs.

Objective: This study aimed at determining the role of apigenin, a dietary plant flavonoid abundant in common fruits and vegetables, on the type I IFN-mediated inhibition of cancer cell viability.

Level of adenosine, an endogenous astrocyte-based neuromodulator, is primarily regulated by adenosine P1 receptors. This study assessed expression of adenosine P1 receptors, ADORA1 (adenosine A1 receptor) and ADORA2A (adenosine A2a receptor) and their association with glioma development and epilepsy in glioma patients. Expression of ADORA1/ADORA2A was assessed immunohistochemically in 65 surgically removed glioma tissue and 21 peri-tumor tissues and 8 cases of normal brain tissues obtained from hematoma patients with cerebral trauma.
