Reproductive strategies and spawning habits play key roles in the evolution of endemic East Asian cyprinids. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying the regulation of spawning habits are not well understood. We recently identified zona pellucida (Zp) as the top differentially expressed protein between East Asian cyprinids that produce adhesive and semi-buoyant eggs, suggesting that Zp protein may play important roles in the regulation of egg type.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated the combined use of two hypomethylating agents, azacitidine (5-Aza) and 3-deazaneplanocin (DZNep), to prevent acute graft-versus-host disease (aGvHD) following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT).
  • Researchers optimized the doses and tested their effects in a mouse model, finding that the combination reduced harmful T helper and cytotoxic cells while increasing regulatory T cells compared to single treatments.
  • RNA sequencing revealed that the combination therapy works by influencing cytokine and chemokine pathways, ultimately improving the prevention of aGvHD.

Clinical data of patients with severe aplastic anemia (SAA) were retrospectively analyzed to evaluate the outcomes of haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HID-HSCT) with matched related sibling hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (MSD-HSCT) in complications and survivals. Thirty consecutive patients were enrolled in the study with a median follow-up of 50 months (range 4, 141), and the median age of the patients was 21 years (range 3, 49). All the patients achieved myeloid engraftment in the two cohorts.

The cardiac valvular endothelial cells (VECs) are an ideal cell source that could be used for making the valve organoids. However, few studies have been focused on the derivation of this important cell type. Here we describe a two-step chemically defined xeno-free method for generating VEC-like cells from human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs).

ADNP (Activity Dependent Neuroprotective Protein) is proposed as a neuroprotective protein whose aberrant expression has been frequently linked to rare neural developmental disorders and cancers, including the recently described neurodevelopmental Helsmoortel-Van der Aa syndrome. Recent studies have suggested that ADNP functions as an important chromatin regulator. However, how ADNP-regulated chromatin mechanisms control gene expression and stem cell fate commitment remains unclear.

Objective: To analyze the incidence of bone marrow involvement in patients with different pathological types of lymphoma.

Methods: The results of bone marrow tests including bone marrow aspiration(BMA), flow cytometry detection, bone marrow biopsy(BMB) and F-FDG PET/CT, were analyzed retrospectively in 702 cases of newly diagnosed lymphoma with bone marrow assessment in our hospital from October 2000 to September 2016. If one of the above-mentioned 4 tests showed positive, the lymphoma patient was judged as bone marrow involved.

To investigate the effects of recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF) on chemokine receptors and explore the potential mechanism of rhG-CSF inducing immune tolerance, ninety-seven donor and recipient pairs undergoing family-donor allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation were studied. The results indicated that different donors showed great disparities in expression changes after mobilization. Multivariate analysis revealed that both HLA mismatching and CCR7 downregulation on donors' CD4+ T cells after mobilization were independent risk factors for acute graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).

The aim of the present study was to explore the effect of different X-ray doses on the proliferation and cytotoxic activity of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), particularly lymphocytes, in order to assess whether this reduces the incidence of graft vs. host disease (GVHD) while preserving the graft vs. tumor (GVT) effect in patients with hematological malignancies following hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).

Polysialic acid (PSA) is a carbohydrate polymer of repeating α-2,8 sialic acid residues that decorates multiple targets, including neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM). PST and STX encode the two enzymes responsible for PSA modification of target proteins in mammalian cells, but despite widespread polysialylation in embryonic development, the majority of studies have focused strictly on the role of PSA in neurogenesis. Using human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs), we have revisited the developmental role of PST and STX and show that early progenitors of the three embryonic germ layers are polysialylated on their cell surface.

The shortage of HLA-identical siblings or unrelated donors has restricted the application of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Few studies have systematically assessed survival and chronic health conditions (CHCs) in the same cohort of patients after HLA-mismatched/haploidentical (mismatched) family donor transplantation. In the present study, we retrospectively analyzed the survival of 127 adult patients receiving either HLA-matched (71 cases) or HLA-mismatched (56 cases) family donor transplantation.

This study was to investigate the differential regulation of CCR5 expression on T cells in healthy donors after mobilization with recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (rhG-CSF) and analyze its correlation with acute graft-versus-host disease (aGVHD) so as to understand the possible mechanisms underlying rhG-CSF-induced immune tolerance. Sixty-eight related healthy donor and their corresponding recipient for allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) were enrolled in this study. The expression of CCR5 on CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells in the peripheral blood (PB) before and after mobilization were detected by using flow cytometry (FCM) respectively.
