Catalytic peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation processes don't solely rely on electron transfer from dominant metal centers due to the complicated composition and interface environment of catalysts. Herein the synthesis of a cobalt based metal-organic framework containing polyvanadate [VO] cluster, Co(VO)(bpy) (bpy = 4,4'-bipyridine), is presented. Axion insulators possess a quantized axion field θ = π protected by combined lattice and time-reversal symmetry, holding great potential for device applications in layertronics and quantum computing. Here, we propose a high-spin axion insulator (HSAI) defined in large spin-s representation, which maintains the same inherent symmetry but possesses a notable axion field θ = (s + 1/2)π. Such distinct axion field is confirmed independently by the direct calculation of the axion term using hybrid Wannier functions, layer-resolved Chern numbers, as well as the topological magneto-electric effect.

Background: The Calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR) participates in the regulation of gastrointestinal (GI) motility under normal conditions and might be involved in the regulation of GI dysmotility in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD).

Methods: CaSR antagonist-NPS-2143 was applied in in vivo and ex vivo experiments to study the effect and underlying mechanisms of CaSR inhibition on GI dysmotility in the MPTP-induced PD mouse model.

Findings: Oral intake of NPS-2143 promoted GI motility in PD mice as shown by the increased gastric emptying rate and shortened whole gut transit time together with improved weight and water content in the feces of PD mice, and the lack of influence on normal mice.

Recent reports discovered that red blood cells (RBCs) could scavenge cell-free mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), which drives the accelerated erythrophagocytosis and innate immune activation characterized by anemia and inflammatory cytokine production. However, the clinical value of the circulating mtDNA copy number alterations in hematologic malignancies is poorly understood. To understand the development mechanism of the epiphyllous bud of waterlily, we examined the morphological anatomy of the leaf-navel epiphyllous bud by paraffin section technique at four stages, and compared the differences of carbohydrate metabolism between viviparous and non-viviparous waterlily leaves. Three tropical waterlily cultivars of were used, including two viviparous cultivars 'Margaret Mary', 'Ruby', and a non-viviparous cultivar 'Pink Star'. The results showed that parenchyma cells below the epidermis of leaf-navel divided and grew continuously after the leaf unfolded, forming a closely arranged cell cluster in viviparous waterlily and raised upward to a spherical shape.

Electrochemical reductions of CO (ECRR) and N (ENRR) can not only reduce CO emissions in the air but also make use of N and HO, the most extensive resources on earth, to produce high value-added chemicals, which has become one of the hot research directions. In this study, the formation energy () and dissolution potential () of 96 two-dimensional catalysts derived from different defect sites of monoclinic crystal boron nitride (BN) were calculated, and the catalysts with thermodynamic and electrochemical stability were selected. Hydroxyl modified UiO-66 ((OH)-UiO-66-X%, X represents the mass content ratio of introduced 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid) was prepared via a solvothermal reaction between zirconium tetrachloride, benzene-1,4-dicarboxylic acid (HBDC), as well as 2,5-dihydroxyterephthalic acid (HBDC-(OH)). It was found that hydroxyl groups can act as the intramolecular hole scavenger to boost the photo-induced charge carrier separation to enhance Cr(VI) reduction. The photocatalytic Cr(VI) reduction activities of (OH)-UiO-66-X% were investigated upon the irradiation of low-power ultraviolet LED light.
