[A quantitative method and case analysis for assessing water health].

Water is the basis of wetland, the degree of water health directly determines the function of wetland ecosystem. The theory and method of water health were established in the study. Water health included both water status health and water process health.

[Effects of interferon-α combined with homoharringtonine on K562 cell proliferation and β-catenin expression].

The study was aimed to investigate the synergistically effect of interferon-α (IFN-α) and homoharringtonine (HHT) on the proliferation, apoptosis, cell cycle of K562 cells and the expression of β-catenin. The proliferation, apoptosis, cell cycle and β-catenin mRNA expression of K562 cells treated with IFN-α and/or HHT were assayed with MTT, flow cytometry or RT-PCR respectively. The results showed that HHT alone, but not IFN-α alone, displayed a proliferation inhibition, apoptosis induction, G(0)/G(1) phase block and down-regulation of β-catenin expression in K562 cells with concentration- and time-dependent manners.

Effects of Epstein-Barr virus on the development of dendritic cells derived from cord blood monocytes: an essential role for apoptosis.

Objective: Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is a ubiquitous human γ-herpes virus, which can adapt and evade host immune defense. Dendritic cells (DCs) play a pivotal role in the initiation and maintenance of immune responses. This study investigated the effects of EBV on cord blood monocytes derived DCs (CBDC).

Baseline and decline of serum ADAM28 during chemotherapy of advanced non-small cell lung cancer: a probable predictive and prognostic factor.

ADAM28 (a disintegrin and metalloproteinase 28) is over-expressed in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with correlation to cancer proliferation, tumor size and lymph node metastasis. In the present study, we investigated the predictive and prognostic value of ADAM28 during chemotherapy in patients with advanced NSCLC. 122 advanced NSCLC cases, 37 patients with benign lung disease and 40 healthy controls were enrolled in the study.

[Screening of early lung cancer with low-dose computed tomography in high-risk populations: a meta-analysis].

Objective: To explore the values of low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) in the screening of high-risk populations for early lung cancer through a meta-analysis of the relevant literature.

Methods: PubMed, EBSCO, Cochrane and other databases were searched with key words. And the studies were selected by the inclusion and exclusion criteria.

[Molecular characterization of a porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus isolate NT0801 from China].

Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) is one of the important pathogens causing serious economic losses to swine industry worldwide. PRRSV is genetically and pathologically heterogenous. PRRSV NT0801 strain was isolated in a pig farm with clinical signs and had high pathogenesis in piglets.

Blood cadmium, mercury, and lead in children: an international comparison of cities in six European countries, and China, Ecuador, and Morocco.

Children's blood-lead concentration (B-Pb) is well studied, but little is known about cadmium (B-Cd) and mercury (B-Hg), in particular for central Europe. Such information is necessary for risk assessment and management. Therefore, we here describe and compare B-Pb, B-Cd and B-Hg in children in six European, and three non-European cities, and identify determinants of these exposures.

Effect of homoharringtonine on bone marrow CD34 + CD117 + cells in patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia.

Fate and toxicity of metallic and metal-containing nanoparticles for biomedical applications.

It is important to obtain a better understanding of the uptake, trafficking, pharmacokinetics, clearance, and role of nanomaterials in biological systems, so that their possible undesirable effects can be avoided. A number of metallic or metal-containing nanomaterials, such as gold nanoparticles and nanorods, quantum dots, iron oxides nanoparticles, and endohedral metallofullerenes, have already been or will soon become very promising for biomedical applications. This review presents a summary of currently available data on the fate and toxicity of these metallic or metal-containing nanoparticles based on animal studies.

We evaluated the in vivo fate and physiological behavior of quantum dots (QDs) in Caenorhabditis elegans by GFP transfection, fluorescent imaging, synchrotron radiation based elemental imaging, and speciation techniques. The in situ metabolism and degradation of QDs in the alimentary system and long-term toxicity on reproduction are fully assessed. This work highlights the utility of the C.

[Analysis of risk factors for relapse of 82 patients with hematologic malignancies after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation].

Objective: To explore the risk factors for relapse after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) and the measures of prophylaxis and treatment.

Methods: We summarized the clinical data of 82 patients with hematologic malignancies who were treated in our hospital from August 2003 to December 2008. Factors including age, sex, ABO blood group disparity of donor and recipient as well as the type of donor, status of disease, HLA-match, conditioning regimen, whether or not having developed acute GVHD and chronic GVHD, infusion number of CD34(+) cells, relationship between CMV infection and relapse post-transplantation were considered and analyzed.

Medical comorbidities at admission is predictive for 30-day in-hospital mortality in patients with acute myocardial infarction: analysis of 5161 cases.

Background: The present study investigated the prognostic value of medical comorbidities at admission for 30-day in-hospital mortality in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

Methods: A total of 5161 patients with AMI were admitted in Chinese PLA General Hospital between January 1, 1993 and December 31, 2007. Medical comorbidities including hypertension, diabetes mellitus, previous myocardial infarction, valvular heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), renal insufficiency, previous stroke, atrial fibrillation and anemia, were identified at admission.

Urinary trichloroacetic acid levels and semen quality: a hospital-based cross-sectional study in Wuhan, China.

Toxicological studies indicate an association between exposure to disinfection by-products (DBPs) and impaired male reproductive health in animals. However, epidemiological evidence in humans is still limited. We conducted a hospital-based cross-sectional study to investigate the effect of exposure to DBPs on semen quality in humans.

[Characteristics of temporal and spatial distribution of water quality in urban wetland of the Xixi National Wetland Park, China].

As the first national wetland park and the representatively urban wetland, Xixi wetland must provide the services of tourism and recreation especially. Based on the data which had been collected monthly from March to August in 2009, the objectives of this paper were to describe the characteristics of water quality in temporally and spatially. The results indicated that: (1) the characteristics of water quality in spatially are significantly corrected with the function of wetland.

Risk factors for acute kidney injury in patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Background And Objective: Allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is a potent procedure for the treatment of hematologic diseases, yet it is associated with high risks of treatment-related complications. Except for transplant-related organ toxicities, renal insufficiencies which emerge earlier significantly limit patients' long survival.
