Nonlinearity and heterogeneity are known to cause difficulties in estimating and interpreting partial effects. This paper provides a systematic characterization of the various partial effects in nonlinear panel data models that might be of interest to empirical researchers. The interpretation of the partial effects depends upon (i) whether the distribution of unobserved heterogeneity is treated as fixed or allowed to vary with covariates, and (ii) whether one is interested in particular covariate values or an average over such values.

Due to lack of normal samples in clinical diagnosis and to reduce costs, detection of small-scale mutations from tumor-only samples is required but remains relatively unexplored. We developed an algorithm (GATKcan) augmenting GATK with two statistics and machine learning to detect mutations in cancer. The averaged performance of GATKcan in ten experiments outperformed GATK in detecting mutations of randomly sampled 231 from 241 TCGA endometrial tumors (EC).

Article Synopsis
  • - Synthetic lethal (SL) pairs involve two genes whose combined mutations result in cell death, a concept leveraged to specifically target cancer cells while sparing normal cells.
  • - In a study focusing on colorectal cancer (CRC), researchers used microarray data and immunohistochemistry to identify and validate several potential SL gene pairs, notably CSNK1E-TP53 and CTNNB1-TP53, through various experimental methods including RNA interference.
  • - The analysis showed that certain SL pairs, particularly CSNK1E-TP53, could serve as independent prognostic markers for CRC, especially benefiting the 40-50% of patients with TP53 mutations, indicating a potential new therapeutic target in cancer treatments.

Mouse embryos have been cultured for more than one half of its gestation period by providing sera from definite species of animals as the inducer at the proper stage of development. The processes of normal development at four different but discrete phases have been described. (1) Fertilized ovum (stage 1) is able to grow up to denuded blastocyst stage and attaches to the culture dish (stage 7) in balanced salt solution with bovine serum albumin as the sole macromolecule.
