To probe the origin of activation effect of carboxylic acid and (+)-NLE in tridentated titanium catalyst systems.

The activation effect of carboxylic acid and positive nonlinear effect ((+)-NLE) in tridentated titanium catalyst systems for hetero Diels-Alder reaction and aldol-type reactions has been first elucidated on the basis of X-ray crystal structural analysis of homochiral (pseudo-octahedral coordination geometry with C2 symmetry) and heterochiral (pseudo-octahedral coordination geometry with C1 symmetry) titanium complexes and the observation of their different reactivities with carboxylic acid additive.

Acid-free aza Diels-Alder reaction of Danishefsky's diene with imines.

[reaction: see text] A highly efficient aza Diels-Alder reaction of Danishefsky's diene with imines was found to occur in methanol in the absence of any acids at room temperature to give corresponding 2-substituted dihydro-4-pyridone derivatives in high yields. This reaction can be also carried out in a three-component one-pot reaction manner. The reaction was found to proceed through a Mannich-type condensation mechanism.

The Effect of Partially Conserved Residues of hTGF-alpha C Domain in Its Structure and Function.

There is a highly homologous region in the C domain of the EGF family, some of its residues are semi-conserved. We constructed three hTGF-alpha mutants, hTGF-alphaV35, hTGF-alphaQ44, hTGF-alphaY45R46, by site-directed mutagenesis to replace the semi-conserved residues in the C domain of hTGF-alpha with the corresponding residues of hEGF. We observed that although the binding affinity of hEGF to hEGF receptor was about two fold that of hTGF-alpha, but the receptor binding affinity of the three mutants was respectively decreased to about 22 %, 13.

Cytokinetic analysis of cell cycle and sub-phases in MOLT-4 cells by cyclin E + A/DNA multiparameter flow cytometry.

Cell cycle analysis has become increasingly important in verifying the effect of anti-tumor drugs and cytokinetic research. In the early methods of cell cycle analysis, the flow cytometry relied on DNA content, and therefore, the cell cycle could be only broken into three stages: G(0)/G(1), S, and G(2)/M phase. It could not distinguish the G(0), G(1), G(2), and M phase cells, let alone the sub-phases in G(1) phase.

Piezoelectric quartz crystal impedance study of the Pb2+-induced precipitation of bovine serum albumin and its dissolution with EDTA in an aqueous solution.

The piezoelectric quartz crystal impedance technique (QCI) was employed to monitor in situ the Pb2+-induced precipitation of BSA onto a gold electrode and the precipitate dissolution with EDTA in an aqueous solution. The critical precipitation concentration of Pb2+, at which the resonant frequency decreased significantly, was estimated to be 4.78 x 10(-4) mol/L.

Functional Difference between N Domain and C Domain of hEGF and hTGF-alpha.

By exchanging the N domain and C domain of hEGF and hTGF-alpha genes by PCR, two chimeras E-TGF(EGF(1-32)-TGF-alpha(34-50))and T-EGF(TGF-alpha(1-33)-EGF(33-53))were constructed. The wild and chimeric molecules were expressed in E.coli under phoA system.

A bulk acoustic wave (BAW) impedance sensor has been applied for in situ monitoring of the whole process of DNA oxidative damage induced by the vitamin C (Vc)-Fe (III) system, based on its real-time responses to the density-viscosity change of the tested solution due to the damages occurring on the DNA molecules.
