Objective: To clarify whether cardiac cachexia (CC) alters the prognostic impact of other general risk factors in patients with heart failure (HF).
Methods: This was an observational study. CC was defined as the combination of a body mass index of < 20 kg/m and at least one of the following biochemical abnormalities: C-reactive protein > 5 mg/L; hemoglobin < 12 g/dL; and/or albumin < 3.
: Coronary bifurcation lesions are involved in up to 20% of all percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI). However, bifurcation lesion intervention is associated with a high complication rate, and optimal treatment of coronary bifurcation is an ongoing debate.: Both different stenting techniques and a variety of devices have been suggested for bifurcation treatment, including the use of conventional coronary stents, bioresorbable vascular scaffolds (BVS), drug-eluting balloons (DEB), and stents dedicated to bifurcations.

There has been no report presenting patients with TS-SS dAVF and ACC dAVF identified simultaneously yet. We present a case of TS-SS dAVF and ACC dAVF that developed subcortical hemorrhage of left temporal lobe.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to comprehensively evaluate the pathology of acute and chronic femoral stenting in symptomatic atherosclerotic patients and to understand the causes of stent failure (SF) using multimodality imaging including micro-computed tomography.
Background: Although the pathology of coronary stenting has been well studied, the pathology of lower extremity femoral stenting remains poorly understood.
Methods: Twelve stented femoral lesions removed at surgery (n = 10) and at autopsy (n = 2) were obtained from 10 patients (median age 74 years; interquartile range [IQR]: 66 to 82 years) with histories of peripheral artery disease (critical limb ischemia in 7) (7 men and 3 women).
It has been recently recognized that recovery of left ventricular ejection fraction (EF), termed "recovered EF", occurs in a proportion of heart failure patients with reduced EF (HFrEF), and is associated with better prognosis. However, the clinical characteristics of "recovered EF" have not been fully examined.Consecutive 567 patients hospitalized due to HFrEF (EF < 40% at 1st assessment at hospital discharge) were enrolled, and EF was re-assessed within half a year in an outpatient setting (2nd assessment).

Large amounts of anoxic groundwater and natural gas, mainly methane (CH), are contained in deep aquifers associated with these accretionary prisms. To identify the subsurface environments and potential for CH production by the microbial communities in deep aquifers, we performed chemical and microbiological assays on groundwater and natural gas derived from deep aquifers associated with an accretionary prism and its overlying sedimentary layers.

However, the histopathologic mechanisms behind such events have not been systematically described.
Methods And Results: From our registry of 1211 stents, a total of 134 newer-generation drug-eluting stents (DES) (Xience, Resolute-Integrity, PROMUS-Element, and Synergy) with duration of implant ≥30 days were histologically analysed.
The presence of macrophages within the plaque is a defining hallmark of atherosclerosis. Macrophages are exposed to various microenvironments such as oxidized lipids and cytokines which effect their phenotypic differentiation and activation. Classically, macrophages have been divided into two groups: M1 and M2 macrophages induced by T-helper 1 and T-helper 2 cytokines, respectively.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFLidocaine has been used as a local anesthetic by injection. The controlled release of lidocaine loaded into nanospheres is necessary to reduce the onset time of the anesthetic effect or increase the anesthetic analgesia duration. In this study, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) with a large specific surface area were prepared by a sol-gel method, and the interfacial interaction between MSNs and lidocaine positively charged in aqueous solutions at different concentrations was investigated by adsorption tests, Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis, and Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) measurements.

Drug-coated balloons (DCBs) utilise anti-proliferative drugs similar to drug-eluting stents; however, the do not leave any permanent metallic scaffold. Excipients and drug formulations play a crucial role in innovative DCB technologies and allow for treatment of lesions where stents are not suitable.

Recently, fetal cellular therapy has become a new option for treating birth defects, although the therapeutic effects and mechanisms associated with such treatments remain unclear. The use of human amniotic fluid stem cells (hAFSCs) is ideal with respect to immunoreactivity and cell propagation.

However, the distribution and formation mechanisms of meteoritic organic compounds are not well understood, because conventional analytical methods have limited resolution and sensitivity to resolve their molecular complexity. In this study, advanced instrumental development and analyses are proposed in order to study the trace organic compounds of extraterrestrial materials: (1) a clean room environment to avoid organic contamination during analysis; (2) high-mass-resolution analysis (up to ~150,000 ) coupled with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) in order to determine the elemental composition using exact mass for inferring the chemical structure; (3) superior chromatographic separation using a two-dimensional system in order to determine the structural and optical isomers of amino acids; and (4) in situ organic compound analysis and molecular imaging of the sample surface.

However, the prognostic significance of SBP following the initial treatment is unclear. The Japanese Heart Failure Syndrome with Preserved Ejection Fraction (JASPER) registry is a nationwide, observational, and prospective registration of consecutive Japanese patients hospitalized with HF with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) and left ventricular ejection fraction ≥ 50%.

Methods and results: Consecutive hospitalized HF patients (n=2,103) were divided into 2 groups according to prior history of CA: non-prior-CA group (n=1,828) and prior-CA group (n=275).
Polyphosphate kinase 2 (PPK2) transfer phosphate from inorganic polyphosphate to nucleotides. According to their activity, PPK2 enzymes are classified into three groups. Among them, class III enzymes catalyze both the phosphorylation of nucleotide mono- to diphosphates and di- to triphosphates by using polyphosphate, which is a very inexpensive substrate.

Background: Endoscopic papillectomy (EP) for benign ampullary neoplasms could be a less-invasive alternative to pancreatoduodenectomy (PD). There are some problems and limitations with EP. The post-EP resection margins of ampullary tumors are often positive or uncertain because of the burning effect of EP.

This study evaluated the efficacy of PJC for risk classification according to international guidelines.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 127 IPMN patients who underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) preoperatively.
