Article Synopsis
  • An 87-year-old female presented with anemia and was found to have a mass in the stomach, which led to a diagnosis of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) following an endoscopy and biopsy.
  • During surgery, the tumor was found to invade the pancreatic tail, prompting a proximal gastrectomy and distal pancreatectomy along with lymph node dissection.
  • Postoperatively, the tumor was classified as high risk for recurrence, but the patient remained alive and free of tumor recurrence six months after surgery without the need for adjuvant chemotherapy.
