Article Synopsis
  • A study examined whether real-time biplane ultrasound-guided central venous cannulation (CVC) improves success rates and reduces complications compared to single-plane ultrasound guidance in critical care patients.
  • The research involved 256 participants, revealing that the biplane approach significantly enhanced first-puncture success rates and reduced the number of complications and procedure time.
  • Overall, the findings suggest that real-time biplane ultrasound is a more effective and safer method for CVC in critically ill patients.

In real-time ultrasound, molecular targeted contrast agent is introduced into the blood circulation through peripheral intravenous injection to enhance the imaging signal of target lesions after binding to the corresponding intravascular receptors, which can realize early diagnosis, staging of diseases, assessment of treatment response, and targeted treatment. In addition, molecular targeted ultrasound contrast agents provide a platform for the delivery of drugs and genes via microbubbles, and nanoscale contrast agents can be infiltrated through vascular endothelium into the interstitial space of the lesion for imaging or treatment. The available studies of molecular targeted ultrasound contrast agents mainly focus on the preclinical trials.

Background The presence of cervical lymph node (LN) metastases (LNMs) affects clinical staging and prognosis of thyroid cancer, but the role of conventional B-mode US is limited for preoperative diagnosis of LNMs. The diagnostic value of lymphatic contrast-enhanced US (LCEUS) in thyroid cancer is still being explored. Purpose To explore the diagnostic performance of LCEUS by means of thyroidal injection of contrast agent in comparison with US in detecting LNMs of suspected thyroid cancer.

Objective: The aim of this study was to establish and validate a contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) nomogram for pre-operative microvascular invasion (MVI) prediction in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), and compare it with the nomogram based on gadopentetate dimeglumine-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (Gd-MRI).

Methods: A total of 251 patients with a single HCC were enrolled in this prospective study, including 176 patients in the training cohort and 75 patients in the validation cohort. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) with Sonazoid and Gd-MRI was performed pre-operatively.

Purpose: To evaluate the correlation of ring-like enhancement (RE) on contrast-enhanced ultrasound with Sonazoid (S-CEUS) with the fibrous capsule of HCC, and compared it with the enhancing capsule on Gadopentetate-enhanced MRI (Gd-MRI).

Method: Consecutive patients with pathologically-proven resected HCCs from January 2021 to December 2021 were reviewed in this retrospective study. Preoperatively, the RE on the S-CEUS and the enhancing capsule on Gd-MRI were evaluated for each lesion.

Objective: To compare and analyze the clinical effects of ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrolithotripsy and X-ray-guided percutaneous nephrolithotripsy in the treatment of complex renal calculi without hydronephrosis.

Methods: Eighty patients with multiple stones without hydronephrosis were admitted at Department of Ultrasound Diagnosis, The first medical center of Chinese PLA General Hospital from January 21, 2020 to December 21, 2020 randomly divided: into two groups: experimental group and control group, with 40 cases in each group. Patients in the experimental group were treated with ultrasound-guided percutaneous nephrolithotomy, while those in the control group were treated with X-ray-guided percutaneous nephrolithotomy.

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) is one of the important imaging modalities for diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Sonovue and Sonazoid are the third-generation of ultrasound contrast agents that have been commercialized and widely used in clinical applications. This study introduces the imaging differences between these two agents in vascular phases for the first time.
