Background: Ovarian cancer (OC) is characterized by early metastasis and poor prognosis, which threatens the health of women worldwide. Small nucleolar RNA host gene 20 (SNHG20), a long noncoding RNA (lncRNA), has been verified to be significantly up-regulated in several tumors, including OC. MicroRNA-148a (miR-148a)/rho-kinase1 (ROCK1) axis plays an important role in the modulation of tumor development.

Ovarian cancer is a deadly gynecological malignancy with resistance to cisplatin a major clinical problem. We evaluated a role of long non-coding (lnc) RNA HOTTIP (HOXA transcript at the distal tip) in the cisplatin resistance of ovarian cancer cells, using paired cisplatin sensitive and resistant A2780 cells along with the SK-OV-3 cells. HOTTIP was significantly elevated in cisplatin resistant cells and its silencing reversed the cisplatin resistance of resistant cells.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is a lethal cancer-related disease in population. Adenocarcinoma (AC) is subclassified into several subtypes based on the new classification by the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society in 2011. Correlation between original expression of Crk-like () and anaplastic lymphoma receptor tyrosine kinase in diverse histological components of AC and epidermal growth factor receptor () or status was evaluated by immunohistochemistry and sequencing in present study.

The present study aimed to investigate the association between epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)/Kirsten rat sarcoma viral oncogene homolog (KRAS) mutations, anaplastic lymphoma receptor tyrosine kinase (ALK) rearrangements and the morphological characteristics of lung adenocarcinoma (LAC), according to the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer/American Thoracic Society/European Respiratory Society (IASLC/ATS/ERS) classification in a large group of patients with primary LAC. A total of 200 patients with invasive LAC who had undergone complete resections at the Beijing Chest Hospital (Beijing, China) were randomly selected. The morphology of the samples was reassessed in 5% increments by two pathologists, according to the IASLC/ATS/ERS scheme.

The micropapillary (MP) subtype has recently been established to be a distinct marker of poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinomas (LACs). According to the 2015 WHO classification system, LAC constituents are required to be precisely reported. T790M mutation and an insertion in exon 20 (E20ins) are associated with EGFR-TKI resistance.

Article Synopsis
  • Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the leading cause of cancer deaths, with adenocarcinoma (AC) being its most common type, containing several subtypes.
  • A study of 212 AC cases explored the relationship between CRKL and AXL expression and genetic markers, finding that 101 cases had mutations, notably in papillary and acinar subtypes while 11% showed rearrangement.
  • The research indicated significant differences in CRKL and AXL expression across AC subtypes, with a notable correlation between AXL and lymph node infiltration, suggesting that genetic factors play a key role in cancer progression, particularly in the acinar subtype.

Objective: To study the clinicopathological features, diagnosis and prognosis of primary sinus histiocytosis (Rosai-Dorfman disease, RDD) of the trachea by case report and review of the literature.

Methods: A 63 year old man with a space-occupying lesion of the trachea firstly diagnosed as a malignant tumor was admitted to this hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The lesion was removed by surgery and the final diagnosis was primary RDD.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the expression of p-p38 MAPK in lung tissues of rats with acute lung injury induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), assessing the potential protective effects of melatonin (MT).
  • Rats were divided into three groups: control, LPS, and LPS + MT, with various methods used to measure p-p38 MAPK expression and observe lung tissue changes.
  • Results show increased p-p38 MAPK expression in the LPS group compared to the control group, while MT treatment significantly reduced this expression, indicating that MT may protect against inflammation in acute lung injury by inhibiting p38 MAPK activation.

Objective: To investigate the protective effect of melatonin (MT) on lung tissues during acute lung injury (ALI) in rats and its possible mechanism.

Methods: Seventy-two Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into three groups: control group, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) group and MT treatment group. In LPS group and MT treatment group, 1 ml/kg of LPS (200 mug/200 mul) was administered through the airway.
