DEK::AFF2 fusion nonkeratinizing squamous cell carcinoma (NKSCC) is an emerging entity in the sinonasal tract, temporal bone, and skull base. However, the clinical behavior of these tumors has not been well studied. Here, we report the largest cohort of DEK::AFF2 carcinomas to determine if morphology, mitotic rate, and/or Ki-67 IHC are associated with patient outcomes, including a comparison with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV)-associated and independent patients.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFMitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) is indispensable for mitochondrial function and is maintained by DNA repair, turnover, mitochondrial dynamics and mitophagy, along with the inherent redundancy of mtDNA. Base excision repair (BER) is a major DNA repair mechanism in mammalian mitochondria. Mitochondrial BER enzymes are implicated in mtDNA-mediated immune response and inflammation.

The primary aim was to investigate the relationship between cleft type and speech outcome using different measures in 4-to-6-year-olds with non-syndromic clefts. Secondary aims were to explore the relationships between (i) speech measures used; and (ii) parent perception of speech intelligibility and listener familiarity.

Since then, the field of ICI therapy has rapidly expanded - with the FDA approval of 10 different ICI drugs so far and their incorporation into the therapeutic regimens of a range of malignancies. While ICIs have shown high anti-cancer efficacy, they also have characteristic side effects, termed immune-related adverse events (irAEs).

Few studies have critically evaluated the quality of data obtained during telemedical evaluations of patients with nasal complaints. To compare the quality of data provided by remote endoscopic and external nasal examination with those by in-person evaluations for rhinoplasty and functional nasal surgery, measured by detectability of anatomic features, and to assess associated patient experience measured by reported ease, discomfort, and likelihood of peer recommendation. Twenty healthy subjects performed a nasal self-examination using an endoscope and webcam under remote videoconferencing service (VCS) guidance.

Decellularised small intestine submucosa (SIS) has been extensively used as an ECM scaffold for tissue repair, but its potential to enhance the effects of exogenous growth factors on PNR is not well understood. In this study, we evaluated the effects of SIS implantation combined with glial cell-derived growth factor (GDNF) treatment on PNR in a rat neurorrhaphy model.

Nonetheless, relatively little is known regarding the locations of mtDNA modifications. Such information is critically important for deciphering their roles in mtDNA instability, mtDNA-mediated immune and inflammatory responses, and mitochondrial disorders.

Methods: Database containing all inpatient otolaryngology consultations between 2008 and 2020 was used. Cases of FB sensation were identified by documented encounter diagnosis or hospital problem of FB or globus sensation.
Aim: To investigate a pre-therapeutic radiomics nomogram to accurately predict hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) lesion responses to transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE).
Methods: This retrospective study from January 2012 to 2022 included 92 TACE-treated patients who underwent liver contrast-enhanced CT scan 7 days before treatment, having complete clinical information. We extracted quantitative texture parameters and clinical factors for the largest tumors on the baseline arterial and portal venous phase CT images.
Background: Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a retinal vascular disease with a high incidence in premature infants and is a leading cause of childhood blindness worldwide. The purpose of our study was to analyze the association between the use of probiotics and retinopathy of prematurity.
Methods: This study retrospectively collected clinical data of premature infants with gestational age <32 weeks and birth weight <1500 g admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021 in Suzhou Municipal Hospital, China.
A history of thyroid and nonthyroid malignancies has traditionally been an exclusion criterion in patients with anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) seeking to enroll in clinical trials. In this study, we examined the impact of prior malignancies on overall survival (OS) in patients diagnosed with ATC. In our retrospective cohort study, we identified 451 patients with ATC treated at MD Anderson between 2000 and 2019.

Methods: Patients who underwent surgery for SG malignancies from 1985 to 2015 were identified. Clinical, pathological, treatment and outcomes data were collected.
We analyzed the association between social vulnerability index (SVI) and healthcare access among patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD). Using cross-sectional data from the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System 2016 to 2019, we identified measures related to healthcare access in individuals with ASCVD, which included healthcare coverage, presence of primary care clinician, duration since last routine checkup, delay in access to healthcare, inability to see doctor because of cost, and cost-related medication nonadherence. We analyzed the association of state-level SVI (higher SVI denotes higher social vulnerability) and healthcare access using multivariable-adjusted logistic regression models.

We sought to examine the association between NLR and new-onset subclinical macrovascular and microvascular abnormalities in the Chinese population.
Methods: From a community cohort, we included 6,430 adults aged ≥ 40 years without subclinical macrovascular and microvascular diseases at baseline.
Objectives/hypothesis: This scoping review aims to provide a broad overview of the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) to office laryngoscopy to identify gaps in knowledge and guide future research.
Study Design: Scoping Review.
Methods: Searches for studies on AI and office laryngoscopy were conducted in five databases.
Background: Laboratory parameters and the associated clinical outcomes have been an area of focus in COVID-19 research globally.
Purpose: We performed a scoping review to synthesize laboratory values described in the literature and their associations with mortality and disease severity.
Methods: We identified all primary studies involving laboratory values with clinical outcomes as a primary endpoint by performing data searches in various systematic review databases until 10th August, 2020.
Background: Acute diseases present severe complications that develop rapidly, exhibit distinct phenotypes, and have profound effects on patient outcomes. Predictive analytics can enhance physicians' care and management of patients with acute diseases by predicting crucial complication phenotypes for a timely diagnosis and treatment. However, effective phenotype predictions require several challenges to be overcome.

We aimed to explore the associations between glycemic indices and SUA levels in the general Chinese population.
Methods: The current study was a cross-sectional analysis using the first follow-up survey data from The China Cardiometabolic Disease and Cancer Cohort Study.
Evidence regarding the dose-related impact of doxorubicin on subsequent cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) in Asian patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) without preexisting CVDs is lacking. From a territory-wide electronic database in Hong Kong, we identified adults who were diagnosed with DLBCL and treated with chemotherapy between 2000 and 2018. We evaluated the patients for incident CVDs (including ischemic heart disease, heart failure, and cardiomyopathy).

Background: ECOG3805 is a randomized trial of testosterone suppression with or without docetaxel for metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC). Deeper prostate-specific antigen (PSA) suppression is prognostic for outcome. However, the concordance of PSA rise and radiographic progression has not been examined previously in mHSPC, whereas this has been reported in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.
