Herein, we aimed to nominate the top candidate gene from each Parkinson's disease locus and identify variants and pathways potentially involved in Parkinson's disease. We trained a machine learning model to predict Parkinson's disease-associated genes from GWAS loci using genomic, transcriptomic and epigenomic data from brain tissues and dopaminergic neurons.

A robust and interpretable deep learning framework for multi-modal registration via keypoints.

We present KeyMorph, a deep learning-based image registration framework that relies on automatically detecting corresponding keypoints. State-of-the-art deep learning methods for registration often are not robust to large misalignments, are not interpretable, and do not incorporate the symmetries of the problem. In addition, most models produce only a single prediction at test-time.

Provider perceptions of bariatric surgery are important to consider when discussing utilization rates. PubMed, SCOPUS, and OVID databases were searched in April 2023, and 40 published studies discussing providers' knowledge and perceptions of bariatric surgery were included.

The intricate and multifaceted nature of soil system profoundly influences the highly complex and often nonlinear changes that soil heavy metals (HM) undergo. Spatial heterogeneity, location and scale variability, and the interaction and superposition among environmental drivers challenged researchers to determine the sophisticated nature of soil HMs changes at the regional scale. This study aims to develop a new method framework and selects Ningbo as the case study to apportion the environmental factors responsible for soil HMs pollution that include Cd, Cr, Pb, Hg, As, Cu, Zn and Ni, focusing on nonlinearity and interaction.

Background: The risk of peritonitis has limited wider adoption of peritoneal dialysis (PD) in the United States. We developed a prototype bedside dialysate turbidity monitoring system, aiming to improve diagnostic accuracy relative to conventional approaches which depend on visual inspection and reporting of insensitive and non-specific symptoms.

Methods: The prototype system was tested in a single-centre, proof-of-principle clinical study in patients receiving intermittent PD.

Introduction: Pre-emptive therapy for cytomegalovirus (CMV) reactivation has been used in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). It is unclear if this strategy has poorer clinical outcomes in CMV-endemic areas and if more aggressive prophylaxis is required.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the patterns and survival after CMV reactivation in patients undergoing pre-emptive therapy following allo-HSCT and assessed high-risk patients who could benefit from aggressive CMV prophylaxis in endemic areas.

Methods: A 47-year-old male patient with no history of diabetes, hypertension or smoking presented with chest discomfort after eating. At the time of consultation, the diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of the right lower lobe of the lung with liver and gastric metastasis was considered by pathological examination of biopsy of the fundus of the stomach near the cardia, pathological examination of CT-guided lung aspiration and pathological examination of liver occupancy aspiration, combined with immunohistochemical results.

Methods: In this cross-sectional study, the medical records of 1,775 women who had visited Pusan National University Hospital for routine health screenings from 2010 to 2016 were reviewed. The patients were divided into four groups as follows: group 1, nonsarcopenic, nonobese (NS-NO); group 2, nonsarcopenic, obese (NS-O); group 3, sarcopenic, nonobese (S-NO); and group 4, sarcopenic, obese (S-O).

Efficacy of cecal retroflexion observed on adenoma missing of ascending colon during colonoscopy: A prospective, randomized, pilot trial.

Background: Although colonoscopic retroflexion has been proved effective in reducing missed adenomas, there is still a lack of comprehensive and in-depth research focused on the ascending colon. We aimed to conduct a randomized controlled trial and tandem colonoscopy to investigate whether cecal retroflexion observed during colonoscopy can reduce missed adenomas in the ascending colon.

Methods: Men and women required to be between 45 and 80 years of age were screened for enrollment in the trial.
