Article Synopsis
  • Liver transplantation is the main treatment for cirrhosis patients with hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS), but its impact on survival rates is debated.
  • A study analyzed 181 liver transplant recipients, finding that 57.5% had HPS, with similar overall survival between HPS and non-HPS groups (around 69.8 vs 63.4 months).
  • Results showed that HPS patients experienced more post-surgery complications like delayed extubation and chest catheter insertion, but their overall survival was not negatively affected by HPS severity.

Background: Increasingly, more evidence has shown that inflammation stress and the tumor microenvironment pose a negative effect on targeted therapy. The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio is considered to be a surrogate biomarker of inflammation and can predict pazopanib treatment effect in non-adipocytic soft-tissue sarcoma (STS). The role of the pan-immune-inflammation value (PIV) in STS is still yet to be determined.

The lncRNA tumor protein translationally controlled 1-antisense RNA 1 (TPT1-AS1) is known for its oncogenic role in various cancers, but its impact on the pathological progression of prostate cancer remains unclear. Our previous study demonstrated that the RE1-silencing transcription factor (REST) regulates neuroendocrine differentiation (NED) in prostate cancer (PCA) by derepressing specific long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), including TPT1-AS1. In this study, we revealed that TPT1-AS1 is overexpressed in LNCaP and C4-2B cells after IL-6 and enzalutamide treatment.

An unprecedented 1,5-addition/N-1,4-addition cascade reaction is established via palladium hydride catalysis. A variety of polysubstituted dihydropyrrole skeletons are constructed in high yield and with exclusively >20 : 1 diastereoselectivity. An enantioselective protocol of this design is also developed to provide a novel access to enantioenriched dihydropyrroles.

Sclerosing pneumocytoma is a rare and distinct lung neoplasm whose histogenesis and molecular alterations are the subject of ongoing research. Our recent study revealed that AKT1 internal tandem duplications (ITD), point mutations, and short indels were present in almost all tested sclerosing pneumocytomas, suggesting that AKT1 mutations are a major driving oncogenic event in this tumor. Although the pathogenic role of AKT1 point mutations is well established, the significance of AKT1 ITD in oncogenesis remains largely unexplored.

A base-promoted amidation of 1-aryl-2,2,2-trifluoroethanones with amines Haller-Bauer reaction has been developed. In this reaction, the direct transformation of 1-aryl-2,2,2-trifluoroethanones into amides C(O)-C bond cleavage occurs without the use of any stoichiometric chemical oxidants or transition-metal catalysts. A series of primary and secondary amines are shown to be compatible with this transformation, and several pharmaceutical molecules were synthesized.

Background: Spontaneous esophageal perforation is a challenging surgical emergency with significant morbidity and mortality, and timely primary repair carries good outcomes. However, direct repair for a delayed spontaneous esophageal perforation is not always feasible and is associated with high mortality. Esophageal stenting can provide therapeutic benefits in the management of esophageal perforations.

Liver transplant recipients are immunocompromised and have low immunogenicity to produce antibodies in anti-COVID-19 vaccination. Whether immunosuppressant adjustment could facilitate anti-COVID-19 antibody production in anti-COVID-19 mRNA vaccination is undetermined. Our patients were informed to temporarily suspend mycophenolate mofetil (MMF) or everolimus (EVR) for 2 weeks during both the 1st and 2nd doses of Moderna mRNA-1273 vaccine.

We describe the synthesis, crystal structure and semiconducting properties of a number of hexacyanidometallates with the formula A[MFe(CN)]·HO (A = Na, K; M = Mg, Ca, Sr and Ba). All crystal structures were studied single-crystal or powder X-ray diffraction. The unexpectedly low-symmetric structures in these ferrocyanides are described and contrasted with analogous transition-metal compounds which have been reported to be strictly or nearly cubic.

Liver transplantation can be performed with deceased or living donor allografts. Deceased liver grafts are donated from brain- or circulation-death patients, and they have usually suffered from a certain degree of damage. Post-transplant graft function and patient survival are closely related to liver allograft recovery.

Genome-wide association studies have identified risk loci linked to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)-a complex chronic inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal tract. The increasing prevalence of IBD in industrialized countries and the augmented disease risk observed in migrants who move into areas of higher disease prevalence suggest that environmental factors are also important determinants of IBD susceptibility and severity. However, the identification of environmental factors relevant to IBD and the mechanisms by which they influence disease has been hampered by the lack of platforms for their systematic investigation.
