Introduction: Diagnosis of focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH) and hepatocellular adenoma (HCA) using conventional imaging techniques can be difficult; however, it is important to differentiate between them as these benign liver tumors require different therapeutic strategies. The aim of our study was to prospectively evaluate the use of PET/computed tomography (CT) with F-fluoromethylcholine (F-FCH) as a novel diagnostic approach in the differentiation between HCA and FNH.
Materials And Methods: Fifty-six consecutive patients with a suspicion of one or multiple HCAs or FNHs larger than 2 cm were prospectively included after written informed consent was obtained from them.
Background: Many (artificial) bone substitute materials are currently available for use in orthopaedic trauma surgery. Objective data on their biological and biomechanical characteristics, which determine their clinical application, is mostly lacking. The aim of this study was to investigate structural and in vitro mechanical properties of nine bone substitute cements registered for use in orthopaedic trauma surgery in the Netherlands.

However, clinical benefit is not guaranteed and there is an associated 8-39% complication rate. This has resulted in the development of alternative (synthetic) bone substitutes.
