Genetic Microcephaly in a Saudi Population: Unique Spectrum of Affected Genes Including a Novel One.

Genetic microcephaly is linked to an increased risk of developmental disabilities, epilepsy, and motor impairment. The aim of this study is to describe the spectrum of identifiable genetic etiologies, clinical characteristics, and radiologic features of genetic microcephaly in patients referred to a tertiary center in Saudi Arabia. This is a retrospective chart review study of all patients with identifiable genetic microcephaly presenting to a tertiary center in Saudi Arabia.

Neonatal seizures: Etiologies, clinical characteristics, and radiological features: A cross-sectional study.

Seizures are a common clinical indication of central nervous system damage or abnormality in neonates. We aimed to identify the etiologies, clinical characteristics, and radiological features of neonatal seizures. This is a cross-sectional, retrospective, descriptive study using data obtained from the neonatal intensive care unit in King Abdulaziz Medical City (KAMC), a governmental, academic tertiary hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Phenotypic Characterization of Human Monocytes following Macronutrient Intake in Healthy Humans.

Background: Three subsets of human monocytes in circulation have been identified and their characterization is still ill-defined. Although glucose and lipid intakes have been demonstrated to exert pro-inflammatory effects on mononuclear cells (MNCs) of healthy subjects, characterization of monocytes phenotypes following macronutrient (glucose, protein, and lipid) intake in humans remains to be determined.

Methods: Thirty-six healthy, normal weight volunteers were recruited in the study.
