Purpose: The impact of carotid endarterectomy (CEA) on choriocapillaris (CC) perfusion was investigated using swept-source optical coherence tomography angiography (SS-OCTA) imaging before and after surgery in patients with clinically significant carotid artery stenosis (CAS).

Methods: In this prospective observational study, patients with clinically significant CAS undergoing unilateral CEA had SS-OCTA imaging performed in both eyes before and within 1 week after surgery. The percent CC flow deficits (CC FD%) and CC thickness were assessed using previously validated algorithms.

Moreover, the hematological parameters hemoglobin (Hb) and percentage of reticulocyte (RET%) were statistically analyzed in relation to the GH biomarker parameters for the GHRH administration study and the menstrual cycle study. Idiopathic neonatal hepatitis or extrahepatic biliary atresia? The role of liver biopsy.

Cholestasis in early infancy represents a diagnostic dilemma and most of these infants suffer either from extrahepatic biliary atresia or idiopathic neonatal hepatitis. Differentiation between the two conditions may be extremely difficult both clinically and biochemically, and a diagnostic liver biopsy is usually required. We report on a Sudanese infant who presented at the age of 4 weeks with prolonged cholestatic jaundice, abdominal ultrasound was inconclusive, HIDA scan was suggestive of extrahepatic biliary atresia and the diagnosis of idiopathic neonatal hepatitis was only reached by liver biopsy.

Tongue actinomycetoma due to Actinomadura madurae: a rare clinical presentation.

A 60-year-old male farmer presented with tongue swelling of 1-month duration. Local oral clinical examinations showed a painless firm mass in the anterolateral aspect of the anterior third of the tongue. Fine needle aspiration for cytology confirmed the diagnosis of tongue actinomycetoma due to Actinomadura madurae.

A new technique for the diagnosis of mycetoma using fixed blocks of aspirated material.

The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate the use of the cell block technique as a safe, accurate and quick tool for the cytodiagnosis of mycetoma. The study included 240 patients with suspected mycetoma. The suspected lesion was aspirated and the aspirated material was processed to form cell blocks.

Fulminant hepatic failure in an African setting: etiology, clinical course, and predictors of mortality.

This is prospective cross-sectional study on 37 patients presenting to different hospitals in Khartoum state, Sudan, sought to determine the etiology, clinical course, and predictors of mortality in patients presenting with fulminant hepatic failure (FHF). Patients were subclassified into hyperacute, acute, and subacute FHF; all sera were tested for hepatitis A, B, C, and E; negative samples were tested for antinuclear antibodies and anti-smooth muscle antibodies. The commonest etiologic factors included seronegative hepatitis (38%), hepatitis B virus (22%), severe Plasmodium falciparum malaria (8%), autoimmune hepatitis (8%), hepatitis E virus (5%), anti-tuberculous drugs (5%), and lymphomatous infiltration of the liver (5%).

Breast fibroadenomas in renal transplant recipients.

Breast fibroadenomas are the most common solid lesions found in young women. We report on four patients who underwent renal transplantation and developed bilateral fibroadenomas while on cyclosporine (CsA). One patient developed symptomatic giant fibroadenomas and underwent bilateral mammoplasty.
