Article Synopsis
  • Imipenem-cilastatin, a carbapenem antibiotic, can cause rare side effects such as seizures, as highlighted by a case involving a 20-year-old male who experienced seizures and respiratory distress after its administration.
  • Despite initial anti-epileptic treatment, seizures recurred until the antibiotic was discontinued, leading to the patient's stabilization, which suggests a link between the medication and the seizures.
  • This case emphasizes the need for healthcare providers to recognize and monitor the potential neurological effects of imipenem-cilastatin, especially in vulnerable patients, and to consider both the benefits and risks when choosing antibiotics.

Poly(L-Lactide) (PLA), a fully biobased aliphatic polyester, has attracted significant attention in the last decade due to its exceptional set of properties, such as high tensile modulus/strength, biocompatibility, (bio)degradability in various media, easy recyclability and good melt-state processability by the conventional processes of the plastic/textile industry. Blending PLA with other polymers represents one of the most cost-effective and efficient approaches to develop a next-generation of PLA-based materials with superior properties. In particular, intensive research has been carried out on PLA-based blends with engineering polymers such as polycarbonate (PC), poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET), poly(butylene terephthalate) (PBT) and various polyamides (PA).

Generation and subsequently accessibility of secondary findings (SF) in diagnostic practice is a subject of debate around the world and particularly in Europe. The French FIND study has been set up to assess patient/parent expectations regarding SF from exome sequencing (ES) and to collect their real-life experience until 1 year after the delivery of results. 340 patients who had ES for undiagnosed developmental disorders were included in this multicenter mixed study (quantitative N = 340; qualitative N = 26).

For many years, the recombination of excited ions of argon, Ar+(P1/22), has been assumed negligible under ambient conditions as compared to the recombination of ground-state ions, Ar+(P3/22). This opinion was confronted with detailed experimental results that seem to clearly support it. Here, we propose a new interpretation in light of our recent calculations, which shows that the recombination efficiency is comparable for both fine-structure states.
