Article Synopsis
  • - SBRT is a cutting-edge treatment for lung cancer that minimizes damage to healthy tissue and has improved patient care at the Salah Azaiez Institute through a thorough study of lung cancer patients.
  • - The study analyzed 10 lung cancer patients from 2019 to 2022, focusing on their demographics, tumor characteristics, and treatment plans, finding that most patients were older males with varying stages of lung cancer including inoperable tumors and oligometastatic disease.
  • - After treatment, patients experienced some acute side effects like cough and fatigue, but with no severe complications or local recurrences noted after a follow-up period, indicating that SBRT is promising yet still requires careful planning and management.

Article Synopsis
  • VMAT (Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy) is a new technique for cranio-spinal irradiation (CSI) gaining traction in Tunisia, with a study comparing its dosimetric outcomes to 3DCRT (Three-Dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy).
  • The results showed that VMAT offers better target volume coverage and protection for some organs at risk, although it increases low-dose exposure to non-target tissue.
  • However, VMAT also requires longer treatment and beam-on times compared to 3DCRT, raising considerations for its implementation in low to middle-income countries.

In the World Health Organization Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR), over 100 million people fall ill every year from foodborne diseases, of whom an estimated 37 000 die annually (disproportionally children). A number of studies have identified a clear relationship between occupational exposure to pesticides and a number of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). For example, respiratory symptoms were reported in 65.

The aim of our study was to analyze the associations between anthropometric measures and high blood pressure (HBP) in Algerian patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 785 adults with normal BMI (248), overweight (253), and obese (284), who were assessed with measurement of systolic and diastolic blood pressure, weight, height, and waist circumference (WC). Body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference-to-height ratio (WHtR) were calculated.

23 May 2018 will be remembered as an important day in the history of the World Health Organization (WHO) and global health. It was the day when the 194 Member States that constitute the World Health Assembly (WHA) - the highest decision-making body of WHO, making it effectively the global parliament for health - unanimously adopted the thirteenth general programme of work (GPW 13) for the Organization, covering the next five years (2019-2003). In its 70 years of existence, WHO has already seen 12 GPWs, but GPW 13 marks a new departure in many ways, heralding the Organization's entry into a new era of work with new ways of tackling the task of improving people's health and well-being across the globe.

The Eastern Mediterranean Region (EMR) is a diverse region in terms of income, development, health and environmental conditions. The environment and ecosystems are under serious pressures with adverse impacts on human health and well-being. Environmental Health (EH) is an area of growing importance for EMR, and environmental risk factors such as air, water and soil pollution, chemical exposures, climate change and radiation, contribute to more than 100 diseases and injuries, and environmental hazards are responsible for about 22% of the total burden of disease in the Region.

Radiation therapy is associated with a fatigue in the majority of patients with a relative variability according to the type of the tumour, comorbidities, associated treatments and the extent of the irradiation. Its origin is multifactorial. One explanation described is that fatigue could be related to the inflammation caused by irradiation exposure.

Purpose: Functional results of total colectomy (TC) and ileorectal anastomosis for colonic inertia are often impaired by postoperative obstruction and diarrhea. In order to avoid these postoperative complications, we propose a subtotal colectomy (STC) preserving the ileo-caecal junction.

Methods: Since 1989, 18 consecutive patients (17 F, 1 M; mean age: 54 years) with intractable constipation underwent TC (n = 6) or STC with caecorectal anastomosis (Deloyers Procedure) (n = 12).

Rectopexy associated with anterior prolepsectomy was performed for 22 patients (19 females, 3 males), with solitary rectal ulcer syndrome (SRUS) surrounding internal rectal prolapse. The different lesions of SRUS were distributed among 3 main groups (G) according to the macroscopic appearance: G1: solitary ulcer (n = 7); G2: ulcerated proctitis (n = 7); G3: muco-hemorroidal prolapse (n = 3). A significant difference (P less than 0.

The aim of this work was to study retrospectively the survival of 164 patients with cancer of the pancreas diagnosed in a gastroenterological unit from 1975 to 1984, according to the therapeutic procedure: 50 patients have not been operated, 12 have undergone an exploratory laparotomy, 72 patients a biliary bypass, 13 patients had undergone a pancreato-duodenectomy, 15 patients a total pancreatectomy, and 2 a caudal pancreatectomy; 9 patients inoperable had benefit from endoscopic biliary drainage. The survival was not statistically different in the 4 groups of patients. Today with a 2 year's follow-up, all patients have died.

Whether or not prednisolone (or prednisone) should be used to treat alcoholic hepatitis remains controversial. This new controlled study performed on 45 patients with steatosis, fibrosis or cirrhosis of the liver suggests that prednisolone is not effective: after a 3-month follow-up clinical course, biochemical alterations, anatomical lesions and portal hypertension were the same in patients treated with prednisolone and in those who did not receive that drug.

An intermediate stage between the elementary and the initial bodies of the Rickettsietta genus is defined as the beginning of an intracellular cycle. It is characterized by several structural changes in the dense elementary body: the cytoplasm becomes less electron-dense; thus, the nucleoid and the ribosomes are visible. The inner layer of the cell-wall becomes progressively clearer and the trilamellar structure of the inner and outer membranes appears distinctly.
