  • * Ethanol extracts of apple blossom (ABE) were tested for toxicity and their effect on melanogenic enzymes using western blot analysis, revealing a dose-dependent decrease in key proteins.
  • * The phenolic compound kaempferol, identified in ABE, was found to mimic this inhibitory effect on melanogenesis, suggesting that apple blossoms could be utilized in cosmetic and food applications for their whitening properties.

Background: Ultraviolet B (UVB) irradiation is viewed as the main factor of skin aging, associated with acceleration of elastin, collagen degradation and expression of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Apples are one of the most commonly eaten fruits in the world, and isoquercitrin is the main active ingredient in new bred varieties "Green ball" apple. Therefore, we are studying the functionality of the active ingredient of apple, a natural raw material that does not have toxicity or sensitivity problems.

This study investigated the characterization and functionality of root (UPT) extracts, degraded using a crude enzyme from PKA1008. To obtain the optimum degrading conditions, the UPT was mixed with alginate degrading enzymes from PKA 1008 and was incubated at 30°C for 0, 3, 6, 12, 24, and 48 h. The alginate degrading ability of these enzymes was then evaluated by measuring the reducing sugar, viscosity, pH and chromaticity.

Ultraviolet (UV) radiation has adverse effects on extracellular matrix (ECM) proteins, leading to formation of wrinkles a hallmark of premature skin aging. The adverse effects of UV radiation are associated with induction of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) expression and degradation of collagen and elastin. The present study investigated anti-wrinkle effects of chlorogenic acid (CGA), pyrocatechol (PC) and 3,4,5-tricaffeoyl quinic acid (TCQ), isolated from beans of Coffea arabica, against UV-B stimulated mouse fibroblast cells (CCRF) by measuring expression levels of MMP-1, 3, 9, and type-I procollagen.

This study examined the effect of delphinidin on high glucose-induced cell proliferation and collagen synthesis in mesangial cells. Glucose dose-dependently (5.6-25 mM) increased cell proliferation and collagen I and IV mRNA levels, whereas pretreatment with delphinidin (50 μM) prevented cell proliferation and the increased collagen mRNA levels induced by high glucose (25 mM).

The present study elucidated the effect of the selective inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) inhibitor N(6)-(1-iminoethyl)-L-lysine (L-NIL) on monosodium urate (MSU) crystal-induced inflammation and edema in mice feet. L-NIL (5 or 10 mg/kg/day) was administered intraperitoneally 4 h before injection of MSU (4 mg) into the soles of mice hindlimb feet. Twenty-four hours after MSU injection, foot thickness was increased by 160% and L-NIL pretreatment reduced food pad swelling in a dose dependent manner.

Interest in transparent oxide thin film transistors utilizing ZnO material has been on the rise for many years. Recently, however, IGZO has begun to draw more attention due to its higher stability and superior electric field mobility when compared to ZnO. In this work, we address an improved method for patterning an a-IGZO film using the SAM process, which employs a cost-efficient micro-contact printing method instead of the conventional lithography process.

Article Synopsis
  • The research investigated how surfactant micelles affect iron behavior and lipid oxidation in oil-in-water emulsions.
  • Surfactants, specifically polyoxyethylene 10-lauryl ether (Brij), increased iron concentrations in emulsions, especially at lower pH levels and over time.
  • Increasing surfactant levels reduced lipid oxidation rates in emulsions containing iron, suggesting that surfactant micelles impact the activity and placement of iron within these systems.
