Validation of the Marginal Zone Lymphoma International Prognostic Index.

The Marginal Zone Lymphoma International Prognostic Index (MALT-IPI) was recently developed for use in patients with mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma based on age, serum lactate dehydrogenase level, and Ann Arbor stage. In this study, we aimed to validate the MALT-IPI. A total of 455 MALT lymphoma patients were included in this study from between January 2005 and February 2017.

Lymphoma Involving Skin and Subcutaneous Fat of the Breast: Two Cases.

Breast lymphoma is uncommon, and it usually involves breast parenchyma and ipsilateral axillary lymph nodes. We report rare cases of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma involving the skin and subcutaneous fat layers mimicking panniculitis of the breasts in a 33-year-old male patient who presented with a growing palpable mass and pain in both breasts and in 17-year-old female patient who presented with an indolent palpable breast mass for 1 year. Extranodal natural killer/T-cell nasal-type and subcutaneous panniculitis-like T-cell lymphomas were diagnosed after skin punch biopsies.

A subset of CD45+/CD19 - cells in bone marrow may be associated with clinical outcomes of patients with mantle cell lymphoma.

Mantle cell lymphoma has features of both indolent and aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphomas. Repeated relapses leading to treatment failure in patients with mantle cell lymphoma might suggest the presence of cancer stem cells. A small cell population with CD45+/CD19 - was previously reported to represent cancer stem cells.

Extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma with long-term survival and repeated relapses: does it indicate the presence of indolent subtype?

Background: Extranodal natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma is a subtype of lymphoma that is derived from NK cells. It is considered as an aggressive form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma because of frequent relapses and resistance to treatment. Relapsed NK/T-cell lymphoma often follows a fulminant course that is refractory to conventional chemotherapy treatment.

Intravascular lymphomatosis presenting as acute hemispheric dysfunction.

Intravascular lymphomatosis (IVL) is known to affect both hemispheres of the brain and manifests clinically as seizures or dementia. To our knowledge, there have been no cases in which acute hemispheric dysfunction is manifested in IVL. We present a 54-year-old man who showed steroid responsive acute hemispheric dysfunction.

Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma of the cutaneous variant in Korea.

Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL) is a rare subtype of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. It is characterized by proliferation of malignant lymphoid cells within the small vessels of various organs. The skin and central nervous system are commonly involved although it occurs in other organs such as the kidneys, adrenals, lung and liver.

Human immunodeficiency virus-negative plasmablastic lymphoma in Korea.

Plasmablastic lymphoma (PBL) is very rare, and predominantly occurs in Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive individuals. It shows a strong affinity for the oral cavity and for the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) positive. We investigated the clinicopathologic characteristics of six cases of PBL in Koreans.

Nongastric marginal zone B-cell lymphoma: a prognostic model from a retrospective multicenter study.

The International Prognostic Index (IPI) and Follicular Lymphoma Prognostic Index (FLIPI) are used as prognostic indices for NHL and indolent lymphoma. However, marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (MZL) evidences a distinctive clinical presentation and a natural course; thus, in this study, we attempted to devise an adequate prognostic index for MZL. Nongastric marginal zone B-cell lymphoma: analysis of 247 cases.

Nongastric marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (NG-MZL) is a relatively uncommon indolent lymphoma. From 1990 to 2005, a total of 247 patients with histologically confirmed NG-MZL were analyzed. Ann Arbor stage I/II disease was present in 78% (167 out of 215).

Expression of heat shock protein 27 in human atherosclerotic plaques and increased plasma level of heat shock protein 27 in patients with acute coronary syndrome.

Background: We intended to identify proteins that are differentially expressed in human atherosclerotic plaques.

Methods And Results: Comparative 2-dimensional electrophoretic analysis on carotid atherosclerotic endarterectomy specimens (n = 10) revealed that heat shock protein 27 (Hsp27) expression was significantly increased in the nearby normal-appearing area compared with the plaque core area from the same vessel specimen, which was further confirmed by Western blot analysis. The Hsp27 expression in the adjacent normal-appearing vessel areas was much higher than that in nonatherosclerotic reference arteries.

Nodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma (NMZL) is a relatively uncommon type of lymphoma. Because of the rarity, the natural history and the optimal treatment modality have not been well defined. Therefore, we performed a retrospective analysis of the clinical features and treatment outcomes of NMZL.

Primary CD56+ T/NK cell lymphoma of the colon.

Primary T/natural killer (NK) cell lymphoma of the colon is extremely rare. Despite the advances in histological and immunophenotypic studies, the diagnosis of primary T/NK cell lymphoma of the colon can be delayed because the early symptoms and colonoscopic findings may be very similar to those of inflammatory bowel diseases such an Crohn's colitis, and most physicians have little available information on this group of neoplasms. Moreover, florid nonspecific inflammatory infiltrates would not allow characterization of the tumor cells in such an inflammatory background.
