A 26-year-old man presented with lower abdominal discomfort and a palpable mass in the right lower quadrant. An abdominal computed tomography (CT) scan revealed an abdominal wall mass that extended from the dome of the bladder. Fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron-emission tomography/CT (PET/CT) showed hypermetabolic wall thickening around the bladder dome area that extended to the abdominal wall and hypermetabolic mesenteric infiltration.

This study confirmed the antioxidant nature of DDS in hydrogen peroxide (H(2)O(2))-induced oxidative stress and assessed its role in other apoptotic stresses in human diploid fibroblasts (HDFs). When CD4(+) T cells isolated from human peripheral blood were treated with Re, LC3 and monodansylcadaverine (MDC), representative markers of autophagy, were decreased in a dose-dependent manner. Interestingly, Re suppressed the production of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma) and immunity-related GTPase family M (IRGM) in CD4(+) T cells whereas no changes in other autophagy-related signaling molecules (ERK, p38 and AKT-mTOR-p70S6k) were found.

The aim of this study was to clarify the clinical significance of IL-6, VEGF, CRP before ESD.
Methods: We investigated the correlation between serum IL-6, VEGF, CRP level and discrepancy rate of gastric neoplastic lesions (10 low-grade dysplasias, 18 high-grade dysplasias, and 25 early gastic cancers).
This study was performed to provide insight for the optimization and regulation of immune homeostasis, which should be taken into account in the development of cell therapy using DCs and/or cytokine. Human CBDCs costimulated with LPS and IL-12 were examined for cytokine expression compared with ABDCs. Our results showed that costimulation with IL-12 and LPS in CBDCs resulted in increased expression of IL-23.

Purpose: The purposes of this study was to analyze the effects of a health education program using problem-based learning on health related knowledge, behavior, and quality of life in elderly people.
Methods: The participants included 44 elders, of whom 23 took the health education program and 21 did not. All participants were over 60 yr of age and were selected from residents of nursing homes or participants in activities of social welfare facilities in Jeju Province.
UDP-glucose dehydrogenase (UGDH) is an enzyme catalyzing the conversion of UDP-glucose to UDP-glucuronic acid. Site-directed mutagenesis studies have revealed that human UGDH (hUGDH) has distinct oligomeric states that vary with different point mutations. In this study we have investigated how the changes in the oligomer-forming propensity may be involved in the thermal motion of wild-type hUGDH and its mutants, using normal mode analysis (NMA).

We have previously reported that TTF-1, a homeodomain-containing transcription factor, regulates circadian rhythm of pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide gene expression in the rat hypothalamus. In this study we found that TTF-1 mRNA was specifically expressed in the rat suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) and colocalized with Period 2 (Per2), a circadian feedback loop controller. Interaction between TTF-1 and Per1 and Per2 was demonstrated by immunoprecipitation and immunoblot assays.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the clinical role of (18)F-FDG PET/CT for the evaluation of lymph node metastasis in periorbital malignancies, compared with CT alone.
Materials And Methods: We analyzed eighteen PET/CT and CT scans in 15 patients with biopsy-proven periorbital malignancies. We compared the diagnostic capabilities of PET/CT and CT with regard to nodal metastasis by level-by-level analysis and by N staging prediction.
We report here on an 11-year-old child with a pustulovesicular eruption on her whole body, including her palms, soles and oral mucosa, and this was accompanied with fever. A serologic test was positive for IgM varicella zoster antibody and coxsackievirus A16 antibody. The histopathologic examination from the palm revealed intraepidermal pustules that showed neither inclusion bodies nor multinucleated giant cells.

Sialylation, the attachment of sialic acid residues to a protein, can affect the biological activity and in vivo circulatory half-life of glycoproteins. Human alpha2,3- sialyltransferase (alpha2,3-ST) and beta1,4-galactosyltransferase (beta1,4-GT) are responsible for terminal sialylation and galactosylation, respectively. Motivated by these results, a first-principles scattering-state approach, based on density functional theory, is used to study the transport properties of carbon chains covalently connecting metallic carbon nanotube leads at finite bias. The I- V characteristics of short carbon chains are predicted to exhibit even-odd behavior, and NDR is found for both even and odd chain junctions in our calculations.
