Article Synopsis
  • The KEYNOTE-063 study compared the effectiveness of pembrolizumab and paclitaxel as second-line treatments for Asian patients with advanced PD-L1-positive gastric or gastroesophageal junction cancer.
  • Conducted across 36 medical centers in multiple Asian countries, it aimed to measure overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) among participants who were randomly assigned to receive either medication.
  • Results showed similar median OS (8 months) for both treatments, but paclitaxel had a better PFS (4 months) compared to pembrolizumab (2 months), while adverse events were less severe in the pembrolizumab group, suggesting it was better tolerated despite limited efficacy conclusions.

Background: The Glasgow - Blatchford bleeding score (GBS) and admission and full Rockall scores are widely used risk scoring systems to stratify risk and determine the need for intervention in patients with upper gastrointestinal bleeding. We evaluated the performance of these risk scoring systems in patients with gastric cancer and tumor bleeding.

Methods: This retrospective study included patients with inoperable gastric cancer who presented with tumor bleeding at the National Cancer Center, Korea, between 2001 and 2015.

Background: Ramucirumab improves survival in gastric cancer patients. The efficacy and safety of ramucirumab outside of a clinical trial were evaluated using an expanded access program (EAP).

Methods: Advanced gastric cancer patients treated with ramucirumab in combination with paclitaxel or with ramucirumab monotherapy in a Korean EAP were evaluated.

Background: Self-expandable metallic stents are used widely to relieve malignant gastric outlet obstruction (GOO). However, restenosis or migration of first stents is a frequent complication. The purpose of this retrospective cohort study was to evaluate the effectiveness of second stents as an approach to manage failure of first stents in patients with malignant GOO.

Background: The combination of gemcitabine and cisplatin is among the most active regimens for the treatment of NSCLC. However, the optimal dose and schedule for administration of the two drugs has not yet been determined. We investigated the activity and toxicity of a gemcitabine and split-dose cisplatin regimen in an outpatient setting for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

The association between aplastic crisis and human parvovirus (HPV) B19 infection is well described in patients with sickle cell anemia. This association has also been described, although much less frequently, in patients with hereditary spherocytosis (HS). However, most cases of aplastic crises in patients with HS and induced by HPV B19 have been reported in children or adolescents.

Intracardiac metastasis as the initial presentation of malignant neoplasm is very rare. We report here on a 64-year-old man with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) initially presenting with intracardiac metastasis which was identified with 18-F fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG PET). The patient was admitted with complaints of exertional dyspnea and vague chest discomfort that had developed a few weeks ago.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ifosfamide, carboplatin and epirubicin (ICE) combination chemotherapy for extensive disease small cell lung cancer (SCLC) patients, who had received no previous chemotherapy, we performed phase II trial between August 1998 and January 2001.

Materials And Methods: The study group comprised of 21 patients. Ifosfamide, 1,500 mg/m2, was given with mesna, 900 mg/m2, intravenously for 12 hours on days 1, 2 and 3, and carboplatin, 4.
