Video exposure is known to affect brain function, yet its impact on neurodevelopmental processes remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate whether exposure to a video depicting social behavior induces behavioral and neurological changes in socially isolated mice. On Postnatal Day (PND) 21, male mice were separated from their dams and randomly assigned to three groups: socially grouped mice; socially isolated mice (ISO), where mice were housed without any social stimulation; and social video-exposed mice (SVE), where mice were exposed to a social video played on a tablet from PND21 to PND56 under socially isolated conditions.

Methods: Among 168 patients diagnosed with HT between January 2000 and March 2021 at Seoul National University Children's Hospital and in whom L-T4 therapy was initiated during childhood, we attempted to discontinue this therapy in 47, 3 boys and 44 girls.
Objective: Hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS) is a rare complication of metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) occurring subsequent to hypopituitarism, often developing after resection of hypothalamic or pituitary tumors. The aim of this study is to report an illustrative case of an HPS patient who was successfully treated with growth hormone replacement therapy, without liver transplantation which is conventionally regarded as the only treatment option. Additionally, we conducted a comprehensive review of published case reports of HPS in the pediatric population.

Floating microplastics (MPs) have recently become a major concern in marine pollution; however, current filter-based technology is hardly effective for directly removing such MPs from the water surface because of specific mesh size and clogging issues. This paper introduces a new skimming concept for removing floating MPs utilizing capillary force mediated by the elevation of a hydrophilic ratchet at the air-water interface. MPs floating near the ratchet surface are spontaneously forced toward the ratchet with a concave water meniscus, driven by the Cheerios effect.

Nanoplastics (NPx) can enter living organisms, including humans, through ecosystems, inhalation, and dermal contact and can be found from the intestine to the brain. However, it is unclear whether NPx accumulates and affects the dopamine system. In this study, we investigated the effects of NPx on the dopamine system in cultured murine cerebral cortex neurons.

Although DA agonists and N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (NMDAR) antagonists are used to treat PD, chronic use causes severe side effects. Puerarin (PUE) is a natural bioactive compound that affects the DA system; however, its effect on PD-associated motor functions is unknown.

In this study, we cloned the 18 S rDNA V9 region of 11 species of intestinal parasites into plasmids. Equal amounts and concentrations of these 11 plasmids were pooled, and amplicon NGS targeting the 18 S rDNA V9 region was performed using the Illumina iSeq 100 platform.

Dynamin, a GTPase, has been known to be involved in endocytosis of receptors for signaling of production of cytokine or chemokines. In the present study, we investigated the role of dynamin-mediated BLT1 endocytosis in TvSP-induced IL-8 production.

Mice were divided into five groups based on the time of SUC or sucralose (SUR, a noncaloric sweetener) administration: for 6 days from gestation day (GTD) 7, to birth from GTD13 and for 15 days from postnatal day (PND) 21, PND38, and PND56. SUC and SUR administration did not impact body weight.

Background: This study investigated the association of prenatal and early childhood exposure to air pollution with epigenetic age acceleration (EAA) at six years of age using the Environment and Development of Children Cohort (EDC Cohort) MATERIALS & METHODS: Air pollution, including particulate matter [< 2.5 µm (PM) and < 10 µm (PM) in an aerodynamic diameter], nitrogen dioxide (NO), ozone (O), carbon monoxide (CO), and sulfur dioxide (SO) were estimated based on the residential address for two periods: 1) during the whole pregnancy, and 2) for one year before the follow-up in children at six years of age. The methylation levels in whole blood at six years of age were measured, and the methylation clocks, including Horvath's clock, Horvath's skin and blood clock, PedBE, and Wu's clock, were estimated.

Methods: 'Ideal Breast Milk (IBM) Cohort Study' included 367 pregnant women out of 442 participants and categorized into three groups based on plasma selenium levels: deficient (< 70 μg/L), suboptimal (70-99 μg/L), and optimal (≥ 100 μg/L). During the second or third trimester, various blood parameters, including selenium, thyroid-stimulating hormone, free T4, free T3, and anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody levels, were measured.
Self-assembly of M(ClO) (M = Ni, Cu, and Zn) with (1,1',1'',2,2',2'')-(benzenetricarbonyltris(azanediyl))tris(2,3-dihydro-1-indene-2,1-diyl) trinicotinate (,-L) and the corresponding enantiomer (,-L) as a pair of chiral tridentate donors gives rise to the chiral cage pairs [M(,- and ,-L)](ClO). For the two pairs of [(MeCO)(HO)@M(,- and ,-L)](ClO) (M = Ni and Zn), the inner cavity is occupied by both an acetone and a single water molecule, whereas for the copper(II) pair of [MeCO@Cu(,- and ,-L)](ClO) under the same conditions, the cavity is filled by only one acetone molecule. Thus, the encapsulation of guest molecules into the cages during self-assembly shows significant metal(II) ion effects.

The most interesting feature is that the self-assembly of NiCl with the mixture of ,-L and ,-L (1 : 1-1 : 4) produces crystals of thermodynamically stable achiral cages, [2Cl·2HO@NiCl(,-L)(,-L)(HO)]·7CHO, in the molar ratio range. Furthermore, the [2Cl@NiCl(,-L)(HO)]·4CHO·EtOH and [2Cl@NiCl(,-L)(HO)]·4CHO·EtOH chiral crystals can recognize the pairs of L-,D-tryptophan and L-,D-cysteine cyclic voltammetry (CV) signals, in contrast to the [2Cl·2HO@NiCl(,-L)(,-L)(HO)]·7CHO achiral crystal.

Entamoeba histolytica is an enteric tissue-invasive protozoan parasite causing amoebic colitis and liver abscesses in humans. Amoebic contact with host cells activates intracellular signaling pathways that lead to host cell death via generation of caspase-3, calpain, Ca2+ elevation, and reactive oxygen species (ROS). We previously reported that various NADPH oxidases (NOXs) are responsible for ROS-dependent death of various host cells induced by amoeba.
