Rare complication of acute transient parotitis after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: a case report.

Acute postoperative parotitis, also known as anesthesia mumps, involves transient inflammation and enlargement of the parotid gland after general anesthesia. No case reports of acute postoperative parotitis after arthroscopic shoulder surgery have been reported to date. Therefore, we share our experience with a recent case of acute postoperative parotitis as a rare complication of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair in lateral decubitus position.

Comparison of Rifaximin Monotherapy and Rifaximin Combined with Probiotics in Patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

: Rifaximin is a nonabsorbable antibiotic used to treat irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Recent studies on eradication treatment have reported synergistic effects and low adverse effects when antibiotics are used in combination with probiotics; yet, such studies have not been conducted in IBS. Probiotics can enhance gut microbiota modulation, inhibition of pathogen adhesion to the gut epithelia, improvement in gut barrier function, anti-inflammatory effects, and improvement of gut immunity.

Simultaneous Determination of Six Acidic Pesticides, Including 2,4-DB and 2,4,5-T with No Established MRL in Korea Using LC-MS/MS and QuEChERS for the Safety of Imported Agricultural Products.

The use of pesticides is essential for the production of high-quality agricultural products. However, the repeated application of pesticides has led to the contamination of environments, such as the atmosphere, soil, and surface water, affecting ecosystems and leading to residues on crops, which pose potential risks to human health. Accordingly, regulations regarding pesticide usage, application frequency, timing, and maximum residue limits have been established to manage residual pesticides.

Influence of Critical Thinking Disposition, Clinical Reasoning Competence, and Nursing Practice Environment on Medication Safety Competence of Hospital Nurses.

Objectives: This study examined the impact of nurses' critical thinking disposition, clinical reasoning competency, and nursing practice environment on their medication safety competency.

Methods: A cross-sectional design was employed, involving a convenience sample of 210 nurses from four tertiary general hospitals and two general hospitals. Data were collected in September 2023 utilizing structured online self-report questionnaires and analyzed utilizing descriptive statistics, independent -tests, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 28.

Consequences of Domestication on Gut Microbiome: A Comparative Analysis Between Wild Boars and Domestic Pigs.

The gut microbiota plays a vital role in the physiological functions and health of animals. Domestic pigs () and wild boars (), which share a common ancestor, present a unique model for exploring the evolutionary changes in gut microbiota due to domestication. Comparing the gut microbiota of these two groups provides a unique opportunity to identify microorganisms that may have been lost or altered during domestication.

Determination of Digestible Indispensable Amino Acid Scores for Plant Proteins and Skim Milk Powder Measured in Pigs.

Severe Acute Kidney Injury with Necrotizing Glomerulonephritis After Piperacillin/Tazobactam Therapy in a Patient with Peritonitis: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Piperacillin/tazobactam (PT), a widely utilized broad-spectrum antibiotic, has been associated with acute kidney injury (AKI). Although the precise mechanism remains uncertain, and most cases of PT-associated AKI are mild, this report describes a rare and severe complication of PT, which manifested as severe AKI with necrotizing glomerulonephritis requiring hemodialysis. A 42-year-old man was transferred to the nephrology clinic due to progressive deterioration of kidney function.

Enhancing Lymph Node Metastasis Risk Prediction in Early Gastric Cancer Through the Integration of Endoscopic Images and Real-World Data in a Multimodal AI Model.

The accurate prediction of lymph node metastasis (LNM) and lymphovascular invasion (LVI) is crucial for determining treatment strategies for early gastric cancer (EGC). This study aimed to develop and validate a deep learning-based clinical decision support system (CDSS) to predict LNM including LVI in EGC using real-world data. A deep learning-based CDSS was developed by integrating endoscopic images, demographic data, biopsy pathology, and CT findings from the data of 2927 patients with EGC across five institutions.

First-Line Tislelizumab Plus Chemotherapy for Advanced Gastric Cancer with Programmed Death-Ligand 1 Expression ≥ 1%: A Retrospective Analysis of RATIONALE-305.

Introduction: Tislelizumab plus investigator-chosen chemotherapy (ICC) demonstrated a statistically significant improvement in overall survival (OS) versus placebo plus ICC in RATIONALE-305 in patients with locally advanced unresectable or metastatic human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-negative gastric cancer/gastroesophageal junction cancer (GC/GEJC) in the intent-to-treat population and in patients with programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) Tumor Area Positivity (TAP) score ≥ 5%. The United States Food and Drug Administration Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee voted (September 2024) against first-line treatment with programmed cell death protein-1 inhibitors in this setting in patients with a PD-L1 combined positive score < 1 or TAP score < 1%, due to an unfavorable benefit-risk profile. Thus, we retrospectively analyzed data from RATIONALE-305 in patients with a PD-L1 TAP score ≥ 1%.

Rewritable Triple-Mode Light-Emitting Display.

Despite great progress in developing mode-selective light emission technologies based on self-emitting materials, few rewritable displays with mode-selective multiple light emissions have been demonstrated. Herein, we present a rewritable triple-mode light-emitting display enabled by stimuli-interactive fluorescence (FL), room-temperature phosphorescence (RTP), and electroluminescence (EL). The display comprises coplanar electrodes separated by a gap, a polymer composite with FL inorganic phosphors (EL/FL layer), and a polymer composite with solvent-responsive RTP additives (RTP layer).

Risk factors and transitional probability of clinical events in Korean CKD patients using the multistate model.

Korean chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients have relatively low cardiovascular disease (CVD) and high end stage kidney disease (ESKD) incidence rates. Using the multi-state model this study analyzed the 5- and 10-year cumulative hazard estimates, transition probabilities and risk factors associated with the five clinical transitions; ESKD, CVD, CVD to death, ESKD to death and death. CKD stages 1-4 patients from the KoreaN Cohort Study for Outcome in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease cohort were included.

Climate Change and Allergens: Current and Future Impacts.

Climate change will continue to impact allergic diseases in direct and indirect ways. Rising global temperatures are contributing to increased duration of pollen seasons, altered aeroallergen production and potency of allergens, and changes in the geographic distribution of allergenic plants that drive increased human exposure to aeroallergens and increased allergic disease morbidity. Climate change is inextricably linked with air pollution, the latter of which was shown to act as an adjuvant for allergic inflammatory processes promoting allergic sensitization.

Efficacy of Combined CD38 and PD1 Inhibition with Isatuximab and Cemiplimab for Relapsed/Refractory NK/T-Cell Lymphoma.

This study aimed to assess the efficacy and safety of combining cemiplimab, an anti-PD1 antibody, with isatuximab, an anti-CD38 antibody, in relapsed or refractory extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma (R/R ENKTL). The hypothesis was that CD38 blockade could enhance the antitumor activity of PD1 inhibitors. Eligible patients received cemiplimab (250 mg on days 1 and 15) and isatuximab (10 mg/kg on days 2 and 16) intravenously every four weeks for six cycles.

Ocular motor cranial neuropathy and risk of thyroid cancer: A Korean population-based study.

This study investigates whether ocular motor cranial neuropathy (OMCN) can predict the onset of thyroid cancer given its association with common cardiovascular risk factors including obesity, diabetes mellitus (DM), hypertension, and dyslipidemia. We conducted a retrospective, nationwide, population-based cohort study utilizing data from the Korean National Health Insurance Service. Individuals comprised those aged ≥ 20 years diagnosed with OMCN between 2010 and 2017.

Pelabresib plus ruxolitinib for JAK inhibitor-naive myelofibrosis: a randomized phase 3 trial.

Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors provide limited depth and durability of response in myelofibrosis. We evaluated pelabresib-a bromodomain and extraterminal domain (BET) inhibitor-plus ruxolitinib (a JAK inhibitor) compared with placebo plus ruxolitinib as first-line therapy. In this phase 3 study (MANIFEST-2), JAK inhibitor-naive patients with myelofibrosis were randomized 1:1 to pelabresib 125 mg once daily (QD; 50-175 mg QD permitted) for 14 days followed by a 7-day break (21-day cycle), or to placebo in combination with ruxolitinib 10 or 15 mg twice daily (BID; 5 mg QD-25 mg BID permitted).
