Background: We aimed to develop and validate a new nomogram for predicting the risk of intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) after intravenous thrombolysis (IVT).

Methods: A retrospective study enrolled 553 patients with AIS treated with IVT. The patients were randomly divided into two cohorts: the training set (70%, = 387) and the testing set (30%, = 166).

Article Synopsis
  • Basic medical laboratory courses (BMLCs) are crucial for developing surgical operating, collaborative learning, and problem-solving skills in medical students.
  • The study tested the effectiveness of an outcome-based student assessment (OBSA) method on 233 students by comparing their performance in BMLCs, with the OBSA group showing significantly better academic results and skills compared to a control group.
  • Most students reported that OBSA enhanced their surgical, collaborative, and problem-solving abilities, indicating its effectiveness in BMLC curriculum evaluation.

Article Synopsis
  • Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common type of cancer, and transarterial chemoembolisation (TACE) is a standard treatment for patients in the intermediate stage, but patient outcomes can vary significantly.
  • This study focused on the ASCT2 gene, specifically two single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), to see if they could serve as biomarkers for predicting patient prognosis after TACE.
  • Results showed no overall survival difference linked to the two SNPs, but early-stage HCC patients with the T genotype of rs2070246 had better overall survival compared to those with the CC genotype.

Aberrant expression of genes in de novo lipogenesis (DNL) pathway were associated with various cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of DNL genes have been reported to be associated with prognosis of some malignancies. However, the effects of SNPs in DNL genes on overall survival of HCC patients receiving transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) treatment are still unknown.

Aim: To clone and sequence the phosphodiesterase 6 beta subunit (pde6b) gene of Kunming mice, and to compare it with counterpart sequences in the GenBank database.

Methods: The primers were designed covering the CDS region of the pde6b gene, and the corresponding fragments were amplified using RT-PCR. The fragments were cloned into plasmids, amplified in E.

Restin, belonging to the melanoma-associated antigen superfamily, was firstly cloned from the differentiated HL-60 cells when induced by all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA) in our lab. Our previous results showed that restin might be correlated to cell cycle arrest. Due to the importance of p53 in the regulation of cell growth and the relationship between p53 and ATRA, we tried to test the relationship between p53 and restin.

Activating transcription factor 3 (ATF3), a member of the activating transcription factor/cAMP responsive element binding protein (ATF/CREB) family of transcription factors, is induced by many physiological stresses. To investigate the activity of ATF/CREB in cells with physiological stresses, we developed a practical reporter vector, the plasmid pATF/CRE-luc, bearing activating transcription factor/cAMP responsive element (ATF/CRE) binding sites. This plasmid was constructed by inserting three repeats of the ATF/CRE binding element into the plasmid pG5luc, replacing the GAL-4 binding sites.
