As precursors of disinfection by-products (DBPs), sediment hydrophobic organic compounds (HPOCs) derived from six reservoirs along the Dongjiang River were chlorinated (Cl-WS) and then fractionated into two polar components (hydrophobic organic compounds (Cl-HOCs) and hydrophilic organic compounds (Cl-HICs)) by solid phase extraction. Based on Caco-2 cell exposure study, the genotoxicity of Cl-WS, Cl-HOCs and Cl-HICs was analyzed by reactive oxygen species (ROS) analysis, comet assay and ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase assay. Protective effects of antioxidants (catalase, vitamin C and epigallocatechin 3-gallate (EGCG)) on genotoxicity of the chlorinated samples were investigated.

The ability of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) to promote cellular cholesterol efflux is a more robust predictor of cardiovascular disease protection than HDL-cholesterol levels in plasma. Previously, we found that lipidated HDL containing both apolipoprotein A-I (APOA1) and A-II (APOA2) promotes cholesterol efflux via the ATP-binding cassette transporter (ABCA1). In the current study, we directly added purified, lipid-free APOA2 to human plasma and found a dose-dependent increase in whole plasma cholesterol efflux capacity.

Article Synopsis
  • Arsenic is a toxic substance that can severely damage the liver in both humans and animals, often entering the food chain through arsenic-based pesticides.
  • This study explores how arsenic trioxide (ATO) exposure in chickens affects liver cells by triggering the cGAS-STING signaling pathway, leading to inflammation and immune responses.
  • Findings show that mitochondrial DNA leaks into the cytoplasm during ATO exposure, activating various inflammatory markers and signaling pathways that indicate a significant link between arsenic toxicity and immune reactions in chickens.

Mammalian retrotransposons constitute 40% of the genome. During tissue regeneration, adult stem cells coordinately repress retrotransposons and activate lineage genes, but how this coordination is controlled is poorly understood. Here, we observed that dynamic expression of histone methyltransferase SETDB1 (a retrotransposon repressor) closely mirrors stem cell activities in murine skin.

The aim of this paper is to control the DOC outlet gas temperature between 600 ± 15 °C by optimizing the hydrocarbon (HC) injection into the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) for active regeneration of the downstream Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF). First, based on the physical model of the DOC thermal dynamics, the energy conservation equation for the gas phase temperature is simplified by using variable substitution, and the energy conservation equation for the solid phase temperature is simplified by considering only the heat generated by the HC injection. By solving the simplified model using the Trapezoidal Rule-Backward Differentiation Formula 2 (TR-BDF2) method and optimizing the model parameters in combination with the Gauss-Newton method, the computational efficiency and accuracy were significantly improved.
