Marital status is an independent prognostic factor for survival in many types of cancers, but its prognostic impact on patients with prostate cancer (PCa) has not been established. The aim of this study was to explore the independent prognostic factors of PCa and to investigate the effect of marital status on survival outcomes in patients with different stratified by PCa. Using the surveillance, epidemiology, and end results (SEER) database, we collected data on 584,655 PCa patients diagnosed between 1975 and 2019.

Heart failure (HF) has been recognized as a global epidemic with high rates of morbidity, hospitalization, and mortality. The role of amino acids, which provide the body with energy, in the development of HF is still unclear. The aim of this study was to explore changes in serum amino acids in patients with HF and identify potential biomarkers.

Although adverse environmental exposures are considered a major cause of chronic diseases, current studies provide limited information on real-world chemical exposures and related risks. For this study, we collected serum samples from 5696 healthy people and patients, including those with 12 chronic diseases, in China and completed serum biomonitoring including 267 chemicals via gas and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. Seventy-four highly frequently detected exposures were used for exposure characterization and risk analysis.

Zero thermal expansion (ZTE) alloys with high mechanical response are crucial for their practical usage. Yet, unifying the ZTE behavior and mechanical response in one material is a grand obstacle, especially in multicomponent ZTE alloys. Herein, we report a near isotropic zero thermal expansion (α = 1.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the effectiveness and safety of the VAA regimen (Venetoclax, Cytarabine, and Azacitidine) for patients with relapsed/refractory acute myeloid leukemia (AML).
  • Out of 30 enrolled patients, 63.3% achieved a composite complete remission, with many showing no detectable disease.
  • The treatment was generally safe, with common side effects including neutropenia and infections, but no treatment-related deaths occurred.

Objective: To explore the clinical effect of predeposit, salvage, and hemodilution autotransfusion on patients with femoral shaft fracture (FSF) surgery.

Methods: Selected patients with FSF were randomly divided into three groups: intraoperative blood salvage autotransfusion, preoperative hemodilution autohemotransfusion, and predeposit autotransfusion. Five days after the operation, the body temperature, heart rate, blood platelet (PLT), and hemoglobin (Hb) of patients were determined.

Quantum non-Gaussianity, a more potent and highly useful form of nonclassicality, excludes all convex mixtures of Gaussian states and Gaussian parametric processes generating them. Here, for the first time, we conclusively test quantum non-Gaussian coincidences of entangled photon pairs with the Clauser-Horne-Shimony-Holt-Bell factor S=2.328±0.

Cooperation is commonly believed to be favourable in spatially structured environments, as these systems promote genetic relatedness that reduces the likelihood of exploitation by cheaters. Here we show that a Pseudomonas aeruginosa population that exhibited cooperative swarming was invaded by cheaters when subjected to experimental evolution through cycles of range expansion on solid media, but not in well-mixed liquid cultures. Our results suggest that cooperation is disfavoured in a more structured environment, which is the opposite of the prevailing view.

Pancreatic cancer is a commonly occurring malignant tumor, with pancreatic ductal carcinoma (PDAC) accounting for approximately 95% of cases. According of its poor prognosis, identifying prognostic factors of pancreatic ductal carcinoma can provide physicians with a reliable theoretical foundation when predicting patient survival. This study aimed to analyze the impact of marital status on survival outcomes of PDAC patients using propensity score matching and machine learning.

Multi-addressable molecular switches with high sophistication are creating intensive interest, but are challenging to control. Herein, we incorporated ring-chain dynamic covalent sites into azoquinoline scaffolds for the construction of multi-responsive and multi-state switching systems. The manipulation of ring-chain equilibrium by acid/base and dynamic covalent reactions with primary/secondary amines allowed the regulation of / photoisomerization.

Conductive hydrogels become increasing attractive for flexible electronic devices and biosensors. However, challenges still remain in fabrication of flexible hydrogels with high electrical conductivity, self-healing capability and adhesion property. Herein, a conductive hydrogel (PSDM) was prepared by solution-gel method using MXene and dopamine modified polypyrrole as conductive enhanced materials, polyvinyl alcohol and silk fibroin as gel networks, and borax as cross-linking agent.

In the 8th edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging system for Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC), tumors exhibiting main bronchial infiltration (MBI) near the carina and those presenting with complete lung obstructive pneumonia/atelectasis (P/ATL) have been reclassified from T3 to T2. Our investigation into the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database, spanning from 2007 to 2015 and adjusted via Propensity Score Matching (PSM) for additional variables, disclosed a notably inferior overall survival (OS) for patients afflicted with these conditions. Specifically, individuals with P/ATL experienced a median OS of 12 months compared to 15 months (p < 0.

Increasing hydrogen peroxide (HO)-based systems have been developed to degrade various polysaccharides due to the presence of highly reactive free radicals, but published degradation mechanisms are still limited. Therefore, this study aimed to clarify the degradation mechanism of six typical glucosidic bonds from different disaccharides in an ultraviolet (UV)/HO system. The results showed that the HO concentration, disaccharide concentration, and radiation intensity were important factors affecting pseudo-first-order kinetic constants.

  • Cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) is when a fertilized egg implants in the scar left by a cesarean delivery, and this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of 2D and 3D ultrasound in diagnosing CSP.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 65 patients and found that using both 2D and 3D ultrasound together resulted in a detection rate of 98.46%, outperforming each method used independently.
  • The study concluded that the combination of 2D and 3D ultrasounds significantly enhances the accuracy, specificity, and sensitivity of CSP diagnosis, making it a valuable tool in clinical practice.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked unprecedented transformations in the lives of adolescents, with reshaping their routines, social dynamics, educational experiences, and overall well-being. Our study delves into the influence of various factors on adolescents' quality of life (QOL) among the COVID-19 pandemic in Shandong Province, China.

Methods: Employing a cross-sectional research approach combined with multivariable analysis, we scrutinize the association of demographic factors (age, gender, education level, ethnic groups, urban area, and family economic status) and health-related behaviors (sleep duration, and self-reported health status) with QOL in 9953 students.

Plastics ranging from nano-scale to micron-scale are frequently ingested by many marine animals. These particles exhibit biotoxicity and additionally perform as vectors that convey and amass adsorbed chemicals within organisms. Meanwhile, the frequency of detection of the benzophenone-3 and ciprofloxacin can be adsorbed on plastic particles, then accumulated in bivalves, causing biotoxicity.

Epigenetic modifications are defined as heritable changes in gene activity that do not involve changes in the underlying DNA sequence. The oncogenic process is driven by the accumulation of alterations that impact genome's structure and function. Genetic mutations, which directly disrupt the DNA sequence, are complemented by epigenetic modifications that modulate gene expression, thereby facilitating the acquisition of malignant characteristics.

Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a common liver disease with a prevalence of up to 25%; it not only adversely affects human health but also aggravates the economic burden of society. An increasing number of studies have suggested that the occurrence of chronic noncommunicable diseases is affected by both environmental exposures and genetic factors. Research has also shown that environmental pollution may increase the risk of MAFLD and promote its occurrence and development.
