The goal of the present work was to establish a biomarker for SUDEP so that preventive treatment can be instituted.
Approach: Seizure activity in patients with SUDEP and non-SUDEP was analyzed, specifically, the scalp EEG extracted muscle activity (SMA) and the average wavelet phase coherence (WPC) during seizures was computed for two frequency ranges (1-12 Hz, 13-30 Hz) to identify differences between the two groups.

A 52-year-old woman with pharmacoresistant seizures since the age of six months underwent a previous MRI scan using a suboptimal protocol which was reported as unremarkable. MRI performed according to an epilepsy protocol showed classic signs of left HS and ipsilateral temporal polar atrophy with blurring of the gray-white matter boundary on FLAIR images.

Prolongation of this state has been associated with increased risk of sudden unexpected death in epilepsy, making characterization of underlying electrical rhythmic activity during postictal suppression an important step in improving epilepsy treatment. Methods: We searched the electronic database PubMed on June 13, 2017 for articles in English that included the following search terms: "epilepsy" AND "depression" AND "country name" for all Asian countries since 1947. Relevant original studies from Asia were included if they reported the prevalence of depression in PWE.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the association of genetic factors including variants in HLA-B and CYP2C genes and non-genetic factors with phenotype-specific phenytoin (PHT)-induced severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) in Thai patients.
Methods: Thirty-six PHT-induced SCAR cases (15 Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and 21 drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS)/drug hypersensitivity syndrome (DHS)) and 100 PHT-tolerant controls were studied. Variants in HLA-B, CYP2C9, and CYP2C19 genes were genotyped.

In patients with intractable epilepsy, surgical resection is a promising treatment; however, post surgical seizure freedom is contingent upon accurate identification of the seizure onset zone (SOZ). Material And Method: Ischemic stroke survivors with National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) 8 were randomly allocated intofour groups, receiving aspirin, clopidogrel, combined aspirin and dipyridamole, and cilostazol. The change of MPV NIHSS, and modified Rankin Scale (mRS) were recorded at baseline and week 4 in all studied groups.
Objective: Clinicians identify seizure onset zones (SOZs) for resection in an attempt to localize the epileptogenic zone (EZ), which is the cortical tissue that is indispensible for seizure generation. An automated system is proposed to objectively localize this EZ by identifying regions of interest (ROIs).
Methods: Intracranial electroencephalogram recordings were obtained from seven patients presenting with extratemporal lobe epilepsy and the interaction between neuronal rhythms in the form of phase-amplitude coupling was investigated.
Objective: High frequency oscillations (HFOs) have recently been recorded in epilepsy patients and proposed as possible novel biomarkers of epileptogenicity. Investigation of additional HFO characteristics that correlate with the clinical manifestation of seizures may yield additional insights for delineating epileptogenic regions. To that end, this study examined the spatiotemporal coherence patterns of HFOs (80-400 Hz) so as to characterize the strength of HFO interactions in the epileptic brain.

We have applied wavelet bicoherence (BIC) analysis to human iEEG data to characterize non-linear frequency interactions in the human epileptic brain. Bicoherence changes were most prominent in the gamma (30-80 Hz) frequency band, and allowed for the differentiation between seizure and non-seizure states in all patients studied (n=3). While gamma band BIC values increased during seizure activity, this trend was only observed in a select number of electrode(s) located on the implanted patient subdural grids.
