Metabolic surgery, including laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG), may improve hypertension (HTN) complicated by severe obesity; however, insufficient deliberation exists regarding the therapeutic effect of post-metabolic surgery on HTN. This study aimed to analyze the factors correlated with HTN remission and recurrence post-LSG in patients who have severe obesity, and to create a classification system to predict HTN remission and recurrence. Of the 102 patients who underwent LSG at Iwate Medical University Hospital between 2008 and 2020, 62 were enrolled in this study.

Background: Serum ketone bodies increase due to dynamic changes in the lipid metabolisms of patients undergoing bariatric surgery. However, there have been few studies on the role of ketone bodies after bariatric surgery. We aimed to clarify the role of and relationship between the changes in serum ketone bodies and weight loss, as well as between those changes and the metabolic effects after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG).

Background: The European and American guidelines recommend that symptomatic umbilical hernias (UHs) are repaired using an open approach with a preperitoneal flat mesh. However, the standard treatment procedure for large UH in patients with extreme obesity is yet to be established. Here, we present the first case of a patient with morbid obesity undergoing laparoscopic UH repair using needlescopic instruments and an intraperitoneal onlay mesh plus repair (IPOM plus).
