Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated the safety and effectiveness of interval laparoscopic appendectomy (ILA) for adult appendiceal mass (AAM) by analyzing data from 956 appendectomy cases between 2012 and 2018, focusing specifically on 49 AAM patients.
  • Among the 49 AAM cases, 34 underwent ILA, which was compared to 477 cases of uncomplicated appendicitis treated with laparoscopic appendectomy (LA), revealing that ILA had longer operative times but shorter hospital stays without other significant differences in outcomes.
  • The researchers found that a specific white blood cell (WBC) parameter (WBC day3/day0 ratio) could help predict the success of nonsurgical treatment before proceeding to ILA
