Surgical outcomes of minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery for pulmonary mycosis complicated with hematopoietic malignancy.

Objective: Patients with hematopoietic malignancies (HM) are often immunocompromised and, therefore, susceptible to developing invasive fungal infections, including pulmonary mycosis. Surgical resection is indicated for localized pulmonary mycosis refractory to antifungal agents. This study investigated the feasibility and outcomes of minimally invasive surgery for pulmonary mycosis patients complicated with HM.

[Surgical Procedure and Perioperative Outcomes of Three-port Video-assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery Thymectomy for Thymoma, Including en-bloc Resection of Adjacent Organs].

This report discusses the treatment and outcomes of three-port video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) thymectomy for thymoma. We reviewed perioperative results of 159 thymoma cases( excluding thymic carcinoma) over 16 years. Thoracoscopic surgery was indicated for Masaoka stagesⅠ to Ⅲ, tumor diameter up to 12 cm, and resection of surrounding organs up to the lung, pericardium+reconstruction, internal thoracic artery and vein, left brachiocephalic vein, and phrenic nerve+reconstruction.

[The Strategy and Outcome of Three-port Thoracoscopic Surgery for Synchronous and Metachronous Multiple Lung Cancer].

The treatment contents and the outcome of three-port thoracoscopic surgery for multiple lung cancer are studied and discussed in this report. 239 cases of synchronous or metachronous multiple lung cancer (11.5%) out of 2,076 cases of primary lung cancer resected in our department from the year of 2010 to 2018 are subjected to this study.

Adequate period of surveillance in each stage for curatively resected gastric cancer: analyzing the time and rates of recurrence.

Background: Surveillance after curative surgery for gastric cancer is conventionally performed for 5 years. However, the appropriate follow-up period remains controversial.

Methods: This study retrospectively compiled a clinicopathological database of patients who underwent curative gastrectomy between 1975 and 2010 at Toranomon Hospital and were reviewed until March 2020.

Identification of a receptor for neuropeptide VGF and its role in neuropathic pain.

VGF (nonacronymic) is a neuropeptide precursor that plays multiple roles in regulation of energy balance, reproduction, hippocampal synaptic plasticity, and pain. Data from a number of pain models showed significant up-regulation of VGF in sensory neurons. TLQP-21, one of the VGF-derived neuropeptides, has been shown to induce a hyperalgesic response when injected subcutaneously into the hind paw of mice.
