Objective: To review the historical aspects of compensation system for workers with pneumoconiosis who developed lung cancer.

Methods: Materials and papers published on the compensation system as discussed in administrative meetings were utilized.

Results: Legal claims for compensation for lung cancer among individuals with pneumoconiosis increased during the period of rapid economic growth in Japan.

Clinical practice guidelines for rehabilitation nutrition in cerebrovascular disease, hip fracture, cancer, and acute illness: 2020 update.

Background: Individuals undergoing rehabilitation often experience nutritional problems such as malnutrition, but there are no clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) specifically tailored to the combination of rehabilitation and nutritional care for these patients. The Japanese Association for Rehabilitation Nutrition aimed to develop CPGs for rehabilitation nutrition to support clinical decision making in daily practice.

Methods: A CPG committee and development process based on the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation system and the Minds Handbook for Clinical Practice Guideline Development 2014 was established.

The patient was an 84-year-old man who was referred to our hospital in mid-December 2012 for a close examination of a mass arising from the left side of the hard palate that was found by a local dentist. The initial examination revealed the presence of a 3.0-cm elastic soft, dome-shaped mass in the left hard palate.

Methotrexate-associated lymphoproliferative disorder arising in the retromolar triangle and lung of a patient with rheumatoid arthritis.

We report an extremely rare case of massive methotrexate-associated lymphoproliferative disorder (MTX-LPD) arising in the retromolar triangle and lung of a patient with rheumatoid arthritis. The patient was a 75-year-old woman who was referred to our department because of severe pain associated with a unilateral ulcer on the left retromolar triangle. The tumor had an extranodal location in the retromolar triangle and in the right lung.

Background And Aims: The mechanisms of cancer cell growth and metastasis are still not entirely understood, especially from the viewpoint of chemical reactions in tumours. Glycolytic metabolism is markedly accelerated in cancer cells, causing the accumulation of glucose (a reducing sugar) and methionine (an amino acid), which can non-enzymatically react and form carcinogenic substances. There is speculation that this reaction produces gaseous sulfur-containing compounds in tumour tissue.

[Analysis of patients with advanced gastric cancer undergoing S-1/CDDP combined neoadjuvant chemotherapy].

We retrospectively examined patients with advanced gastric cancer who underwent S-1/CDDP combined neoadjuvant chemotherapy. Nine patients who had the factor of curative surgery deemed not feasible for advanced gastric cancer were enrolled. 80 mg/m2 of S-1 was given orally from days 1-14, and 60 mg/m2 of CDDP was administered on day 8.

S-1 (120mg/day) was administered orally for 14 days, followed by 7 drug-free days as a course, and CDDP (100mg/ body) was administered by intravenous drip on day 8.

[A case of hepatic metastases of sigmoid colon cancer which completely responded to systemic l-leucovorin/5-FU therapy and oral LV/UFT combination therapy].

A 73-year-old man was admitted for sigmoid colon cancer with multiple hepatic metastases. The patient underwent a sigmoidectomy only, because of bronchial asthma. Then, l-leucovorin (375 mg/body) and 5-FU (750 mg/body) were injected every week.

[A case of advanced gastric cancer with paraaortic lymph node metastasis reaching long-term survival by TS-1 treatment].

A 62-year-old male patient with paraaortic lymph node metastasis of type 2 gastric cancer underwent distal gastrectomy with partial resection of transverse colon. MTX/5-FU sequential therapy was performed 5 times as adjuvant chemotherapy. After that TS-1 was administered on a 4-week dosing regimen with a 2-week interval between sessions.
