It is important to examine the presence of preformed antibodies in hemodialysis patients before renal transplantation, because it causes the graft rejection in organ transplantation. In the 239 hemodialysis patients we analysed 3 preformed antibodies divided TW, BW and BC. Sensitized rate (TW+, BW+ and BC+) was 0% at no blood transfusions (BT), 9.

Prostate cancer: Considering the stagnation in chemotherapy of prostate cancer in recent years, the following experiments were carried out to determine their clinical value. Surgical specimens from 6 patients, 2 permanent cell lines (EB 33 and PC 93) originated from human prostate cancer and a tumor line serially transplanted in nude mice (PC-NCC) were subjected to chemosensitivity tests such as human tumor cloning assay (HTCA) and/or in vivo tumor growth curve experiments using nude mice. The possible chemosensitive drugs screened by using surgical specimens and PC-NCC tumor were cisplatinum (CDDP), bleomycin (BLM), 5-FU, vincristine (VCR), adriamycin (ADM) and methotrexate (MTX).

We measured the prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP), gamma-Seminoprotein (gamma-Sm) and prostate specific antigen (PA) in the serum of 862 patients with various urologic diseases including 89 patients with prostatic cancer. We used a PAP radioimmunoassay kit, gamma-Sm enzyme immunoassay kit, Markit-F-PA enzyme immunoassay kit and PA test Wako enzyme immunoassay kit. Serum PA level in advanced prostatic carcinoma (stage C, D) tended to be higher than that in early stage cancer (stage A, B).

Two cases of "Inflammatory" aneurysm of the abdominal aorta and a review of this type of lesion were presented. The incidence of inflammatory aneurysm of the abdominal aorta in the literature is 2.5 to 15%, but there were no detail reports concerning with this in Japan.

We report a case of spontaneous regression of a right intrarenal arteriovenous malformation 6 months after initial examination without surgical intervention, arterial embolization or radiotherapy. The patient presented with massive hematuria from the right kidney, which disappeared completely after spontaneous regression.

The clinicopathology of 13 cases of chondroid syringoma were examined. The ages of the patients ranged from 26 to 86 years, with an average of 48 years. There were eight males and five females.

Newborn WKA rats given a single intraperitoneal injection of MMC treated TARS-1, a rat T cell line producing HTLV-I, were shown to accumulate high titred antibodies specific for HTLV-I. Adult WKA rats rejected TARS-1 transplant with transient appearance of anti-HTLV-I antibodies. However, rats maintained under daily administration of Bredinin, an immunosuppressive drug after TARS-1 transplant showed continuous production of antibodies specific for HTLV-I by aging.

We have examined expression of antigens defined by HT462 monoclonal antibody (mAb), together with other HTLV-I related antigens using phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate treated leukemic mature T cells. Thirteen patients with adult T-cell leukemia (ATL), 3 patients in remission states of ATL and 5 patients with non-ATL were examined. All ATL cells expressed the HT462 antigen, however cells from patients in remission did not express the HT462 antigen.

A case of severe right radicular ischias following embolization is reported. Gelfoam powder and pledgets were used for right internal iliac artery embolization in the case of intractable bladder cancer hemorrhage. It is supposed that previous radiotherapy and fine embolic material may be the contributing factors to this complication.

A rare autopsy case of Goodpasture's syndrome with systemic necrotizing angiitis is reported. The patient, a 56-year-old male, died of respiratory failure with massive pulmonary hemorrhage and renal failure. The autopsy showed widespread hemorrhage in both lungs, diffuse crescentic glomerulonephritis, and systemic necrotizing angiitis in the small arteries.

BALB/c mice neonatally injected with (BALB/c X C57BL/6)F1 hybrid spleen cells develop host-versus-graft disease (HVGD) with immunopathological features characteristic of either systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), or immunoblastic lymphadenopathy (IBL) in man. HVGD mice manifest polyclonal hypergammaglobulinemia with various autoantibodies, generalized lymphadenopathy, hepatosplenomegaly, immune complex glomerulonephritis and evolve in the end to malignant lymphoma. The necessary prerequisite for HVGD induction between donor and host can be summarized as follows: Histoincompatibilities in the H-2 region between donor and host are needed; predominant F1 donor cells needed for HVGD induction are, if not sole, steroid resistant, nylon wool nonadherent and Thy-1 positive T cells; the role of donor T cells is not only to present H-2 complex to the host, but also to interact with and proliferate in the host; strain differences are found for the susceptibility of HVGD induction in the host.

Interleukin 2 (IL 2) receptor (IL 2-R) is constitutively expressed on T cell lines established from the patients with adult T cell leukemia (ATL), which is a human T cell leukemia lymphoma virus (HTLV-1)(+) T4(+)-leukemia endemic in Japan, the United States, and other countries. Many of these cell lines continuously produce an acidic lymphokine, ATL-derived factor (ADF), which preferentially induces the synthesis and expression of IL 2-R on a sensitive HTLV-1(-) non-T cell line (YT). The induced IL 2-R was characterized by the binding of 125I-IL 2 and flow cytometry by using fluoresceinated anti-human IL 2-R monoclonal antibodies (anti-Tac).

A case of spontaneous rupture of renal cell carcinoma is reported. A 53-year old man was admitted with the chief complaint of sudden gross hematuria and right flank pain on December 28, 1979. On the following day, the clinical impression was right ruptured kidney, and therefore right nephrectomy was done.

We have compared the NZB/B1NJ (/NJ) and NZB/B1Pt (/Pt) mouse substrains with respect to a number of immunological and biochemical polymorphisms. In agreement with earlier findings by other workers, we detected histocompatibility antigen difference(s) between the two substrains. Serological analysis indicated that /NJ and /Pt expressed the same allotypes of H-2, Thy-1 and Lyt-1 antigens, while they differed for the Lyt-2 antigen.

The clinicopathology and immunopathology of 80 cases of lupus nephritis in a total of 1,187 biopsies were presented. Histologically, they consisted of 11 cases of mesangial lupus nephritis (13.8%), 51 cases of diffuse proliferative lupus nephritis (63.

Cocultivation of spleen cells, lymph node cells, and thymocytes of female Wistar-King-Aptekman rats with short-term cultured male adult T cell leukemia (ATL) cells in the presence of 5-bromo-2'-deoxyuridine (BrdUrd) resulted in the establishment of rat lymphoid cell lines, TARS-1, TARL-2, and TART-1. Cytogenetic analysis of the three cell lines showed a female rat karyotype with 42 chromosomes. The surface phenotypes of TARS-1 and TART-1 were those of rat T cells.
