[AuPt(C6)] (C6 = 1-hexanethiolate) is twice as active as commercial Pt nanoparticles in promoting the electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), thereby attracting attention as new HER catalysts with well-controlled geometric structures. In this study, we succeeded in synthesizing two new Au-Pt alloy nanoclusters, namely, [AuPt(TBBT)(TDT)] (TBBT = 4--butylbenzenethiolate; TDT = thiodithiolate) and [AuPt(TBBT)(PDT)] (PDT = 1,3-propanedithiolate), by exchanging all the ligands of [AuPt(PET)] (PET = 2-phenylethanethiolate) with mono- or dithiolates. Although [AuPt(TBBT)(TDT)] was synthesized serendipitously, a similar cluster, [AuPt(TBBT)(PDT)], was subsequently obtained by selecting the appropriate reaction conditions and optimal combination of thiolate and dithiolate ligands.

Materials And Methods: The authors used the CHINAL Ultimate database to review academic publications from December 2012 to December 2022. Four terms, one from each of four sets of keywords, were combined as search criteria: (1) "dysphagia", "aspiration", "choking", "airway obstruction asphyxia", "swallowing function", or "pneumonia", (2) "aged" or "elderly people", (3) "nursing" or "nursing care", and (4) prevention.

Aims: Extracts of fermented feed obtained via fermentation of marine animal resources with thermophilic Bacillaceae bacteria increase the fecundity of livestock. The intestinal bacterial profiles in response to long-term administration of this extract to pigs were investigated.

Methods And Results: Half of a swine farm was supplied with potable water containing an extract of fermented feed for more than 2 years, whereas the other half was supplied with potable water without the extract.

Mucosal malignant melanoma (MMM) is a rare subtype of malignant melanoma with a more aggressive biological behavior than cutaneous melanoma (CM). Owing to its rarity, it is necessary to accumulate information on treatments, especially in Asians, in whom MMM occurs more frequently than in Caucasians. In this study, we investigated the efficacy and adverse events (AEs) of nivolumab plus ipilimumab therapy (NIVO+IPI) versus immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) monotherapy (PD-1) in Japanese patients with MMM.

However, why TTR with a wild-type genetic sequence misfolds and aggregates in wild-type transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTRwt) is unknown. Here, we evaluate kinetic TTR stability with a newly developed ELISA system in combination with urea-induced protein denaturation.

Caveolin is a structural protein within caveolae that may be involved in transmembrane molecular transport and/or various intercellular interactions within cells. Specific mutations of caveolin-3 in muscle fibers are well known to cause limb-girdle muscular dystrophy. Altered expression of caveolin-3 has also been detected in Duchenne muscular dystrophy, which may be a part of the pathological process leading to muscle weakness.

Background: Mast cells are key effector cells that elicit immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated allergic inflammations. Allergen cross-linking of IgE bound to the high-affinity IgE receptor, FcεRI, on mast cells triggers signaling cascades that activate signal proteins and evoke extracellular Ca influx, which are crucial for cytokine production. The β2-adrenergic receptor (Adrb2) on mast cells negatively regulates FcεRI signaling, as demonstrated by the inhibition of IgE/antigen (Ag)-induced activation by Adrb2 agonists.

Efficacy of Switching From Oral to Intravenous Administration for Dexamethasone-Induced Hiccups in CyberKnife Radiotherapy: A Case Report.

Steroids are commonly used for medical purposes. While hiccups are a recognized side effect of steroid therapy, we have not found any reports of hiccups interfering with the progress of radiotherapy. A case of dexamethasone (DEX)-induced hiccups (DIH) during CyberKnife radiotherapy (CKR) is presented.

The patient was a 50-year-old Japanese woman who was diagnosed with total-colitis-type ulcerative colitis (UC) at the age of 26 years. She was treated with mesalazine and azathioprine, and her disease activity was well controlled. At the age of 50 years, the patient was experiencing fever, abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloody stool, and anal pain, which led to a diagnosis of a relapse of UC.

Flies groom in response to competing mechanosensory cues in an anterior-to-posterior order using specific legs. From behavior screens, we identified a pair of cholinergic command-like neurons, Mago-no-Te (MGT), whose optogenetic activation elicits thoracic grooming by the back legs. Thoracic grooming is typically composed of body sweeps and leg rubs in alternation, but clonal analysis coupled with amputation experiments revealed that MGT activation only commands the body sweeps: initiation of leg rubbing requires contact between the leg and thorax.

First Experience With the Triolifter, a Novel Device for Organ Fixation Used as a Heart Positioner in Cardiac Surgery.

We describe our first experience with the Triolifter (Fuji Systems, Yokohama, Japan) in cardiac surgery. The Triolifter is a less expensive, novel organ fixation device developed as a fixation indenter mainly for traction of the lung under video-assisted surgery and is now available in Japan. An 84-year-old man diagnosed with unstable angina pectoris underwent emergency coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) under cardiac arrest.
