Objectives: We focused on how the immunophenotypes based on the distribution of CD8-positive tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) relate to the endometrial cancer (EC) molecular subtypes and patients' prognosis.

Patients And Methods: Two cohorts of EC patients (total n = 145) were analyzed and categorized using the Molecular Risk Classifier for Endometrial cancer (ProMisE): POLEmut (POLE mutation), MMRd (mismatch repair deficiency), NSMP (no specific molecular profile), and p53abn (p53 abnormality). CD8-positive TILs, within the central tumor and the invasive margin, were examined by using immunohistochemical staining and advanced image-analysis software.

Advanced ovarian cancer often presents with multiple lesions exhibiting varying responses to chemotherapy, highlighting the critical influence of the tumor microenvironment (TME). This study investigates the phenomenon of chemotherapeutic hormesis, wherein low doses of chemotherapeutic agents, such as cisplatin (CDDP) and paclitaxel (PTX), paradoxically stimulate rather than inhibit cancer cell proliferation. Our findings indicate that NOS3 ovarian cancer cells, particularly drug-resistant variants, exhibit enhanced proliferation when exposed to low concentrations of these drugs.

Tacrolimus is widely recognized as an anti-rejection agent due to its immunosuppressive characteristics. It binds to the immunophilin FK506-binding protein (FKBP) and thus to calcineurin, and inhibits its activity. Tacrolimus' therapeutic concentration range in blood is narrow, and its pharmacokinetics are highly variable among individuals.

Background: The accumulation of ascites is a major symptom of ovarian cancer. The volume of ascites is a pathophysiological indicator of the peritoneal environment, such as inflammation and fibrosis; however, the relationship between the volume of ascites and oncological outcomes remains unclear. We herein retrospectively examined the effects of the volume of ascites on the prognosis of epithelial ovarian cancer in a multi-institutional large cohort using the stratification of clinical characteristics and statistical adjustment methods.

A common complication in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is interstitial lung disease (ILD). Antibodies (Abs) to anti-aminoacyl-transfer ribonucleic acid synthetase (ARS) are linked to ILD in patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM). There have been limited studies of anti-ARS Abs in RA.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers investigated whether SARS-CoV-2 RNA can be found on the skin of COVID-19 patients by analyzing skin surface lipids (SSLs) collected from their faces.
  • Using RT-PCR, they found that 84.6% of samples tested positive within 5 days of symptom onset, while only 30.4% tested positive between 6-10 days.
  • The study also revealed an increase in specific genes related to the immune response in the skin samples, highlighting a new method for detecting the virus and studying its impact on human health non-invasively.

Ovarian cancer (OvCa) is one of the most lethal gynecological malignancies, and most patients are diagnosed at advanced stage with peritoneal dissemination. Although age at diagnosis is considered an independent prognostic factor, its impact on peritoneal recurrence after combined cytoreductive surgery and chemotherapy is not clear. The objective of this study was to investigate the impact of aging on peritoneal recurrence from stealth dissemination and gain insight of the pathophysiology of OvCa in elderly patients.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigated the molecular mechanisms of how complete hydatidiform moles (CHM) can lead to post-molar gestational trophoblast neoplasia (GTN) using RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) on samples from 13 patients.
  • By comparing gene expression between patients who developed GTN and those who had spontaneous remission, researchers identified 281 differentially expressed genes and focused on the transcription factor XBP1, which showed significant activation in the GTN group.
  • The research demonstrated that XBP1 plays a crucial role in increasing the migration and invasive abilities of trophoblast cells, as well as contributing to tumor growth in animal models, highlighting its potential as a key factor in the progression from CHM to GT

We previously demonstrated that glycyrrhizin (GL) suppressed inflammation and carcinogenesis in an azoxymethane (AOM)/dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced murine model of colorectal cancer (CC). In this study, we found an accumulation of regulatory T cells (Tregs) in the spleen and suppression by GL in model mice. ICR mice were divided into four groups: Control, GL, CC, and GL-treated CC (CC+GL), and were sacrificed 20 weeks after AOM/DSS treatment.
