Inactivation of the p53 gene is one of the most frequent genetic alterations in carcinogenesis. We studied gene mutations, the mRNA expression of p53, and the accumulation of p53 protein in chemical hepatocarcinogenesis in rats. Samples consisting of 44 precancerous foci and 18 cancerous foci were collected by laser capture microdissection (LCM), and analyzed for mutations in rat p53 gene exons 5-8 by PCR-single-strand conformational polymorphism (PCR-SSCP).

Background: One of the most well-known ways to identify stem cells is to search for the slow-cycling cells (label-retaining cells; LRCs), by labelling their DNA. The bulge of hair follicle is assumed to identify the location of the follicular stem cells. While this assumption was supported by previous analyses of cell tracing, it is still not clear whether the LRCs are critical for follicular renewal.

We detected a peptide having a behavioral activity on mouse forced swimming from sera of healthy volunteers without affective and psychotic diseases. The amino acid sequence was GVNDNEEGF, which was found in the sequence of human beta-fibrinogen. The synthesized peptide also showed the behavioral activity dose-dependently, but human fibrinopeptide B (QGVDNEEGFFSAR) did not.
