Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the link between the R353Q polymorphism in the Factor VII gene and the occurrence of premature myocardial infarction (MI) in young Japanese men.
  • In a sample of 127 MI patients under 45 years and 150 matched healthy controls, the Q allele showed a negative association with premature MI, suggesting it may offer some protective effects.
  • While plasma levels of activated Factor VII (FVIIa) were higher in patients compared to controls, the difference was not statistically significant, but gene polymorphism did affect FVIIa concentrations significantly.

Background And Objectives: The rapid cardiac troponin T (cTnT) test is widely used to detect myocardial necrosis in the emergency setting. This assay system is rapid and myocardial-specific, but the plasma cTnT concentration is difficult to determine quantitatively. A recently developed bedside cTnT and myoglobin (Mb) analyzer (CARDIAC system) was evaluated.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine the mechanism by which 60 degrees C sauna treatment improves cardiac function in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF).

Background: We have previously reported that repeated 60 degrees C sauna treatment improves hemodynamic data and clinical symptoms in patients with CHF. We hypothesized that the sauna restores endothelial function and then improves cardiac function.
