Cancer cachexia is a complex disorder characterized by skeletal muscle loss, which may influence the prognosis of patients with cancer. The cachexia index (CXI) is a new index for cachexia. The present study aimed to assess whether the CXI determined by bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) is valuable for predicting survival in patients with gastrointestinal cancer.

However, current analytical methods require a sample size of 20 mL STP (0.82 mmol) of pure CH gas, which significantly limits its application to natural samples.

Beta-hydroxy-beta-methylbutyrate (HMB) supplementation has been shown to promote muscle protein anabolism and inhibit catabolism, thereby preventing muscle weakness. However, its efficacy in older patients undergoing cardiac surgery remains unknown.

Reintubation in such cases is challenging and may cause additional traumatic laryngitis. Tracheostomy is the best management for subglottic stenosis after DLT intubation.

Methods: Our retrospective study incorporated 34 patients diagnosed with biliary and pancreatic disorders. We obtained MRCP images using a single breath-hold MRCP on a 3T MRI system.
Persistent hiccups are rare but can serve as an early symptom of underlying conditions, including pulmonary infections and cerebrovascular disorders. This case highlights hiccups as a presenting symptom of bronchopneumonia in a hemodialysis patient and explores the effective use of chlorpromazine and Hange-koboku-to (HKT) as symptomatic therapies. Given the potential association of hiccups with neurological conditions, this case underscores the need for comprehensive diagnostic evaluation.

Methods: We performed sub-analysis of an international, multicenter, open-label database containing colonoscopy data from 11 centers in 4 Asian countries/regions on patients who underwent colonoscopy.
BACKGROUND Toluene poisoning can occur as a result of occupational exposure in industries such as painting, as well as through misuse, leading to complications such as neurological symptoms due to the accumulation of the metabolic byproduct of hippuric acid and metabolic acidosis. However, the exact mechanisms remain unclear. Hippuric acid is not removed by dialysis, so urinary excretion plays a central role.

We aimed to demonstrate whether snare bending reduces resection ability and, if it does, what causes this reduction. Using currently available CSP snares and prototype snares, we investigated changes in the resection ability of bent snares as well as the stiffness of their sheaths and wire spindles.

Furthermore, there are only a limited number of studies investigating the association between DR and kidney outcomes classified according to baseline kidney function and albuminuria status. Here, we examined the association of DR with kidney disease progression in individuals with type 2 diabetes.

Therefore, this exploratory study aimed to evaluate the hemostatic effect of SAPG on bleeding during ER of the duodenum.
Methods: Patients with superficial duodenal epithelial tumors who underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) or cold-snare polypectomy (CSP) between June 2022 and October 2023 were enrolled in the study.
Hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis is a known complication following ileal conduit urinary diversion, often arising from urinary reabsorption in the ileum, which leads to chloride retention and bicarbonate loss and, though often asymptomatic, can produce clinically significant symptoms, particularly in patients with underlying renal impairment. A 75-year-old woman with a history of bladder cancer underwent cystectomy with ileal conduit diversion and presented on postoperative day 47 with anorexia, hypotension, and weight loss; laboratory findings revealed hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis with elevated serum chloride. The patient's acidosis gradually improved with sodium bicarbonate and Ringer's solution, stabilizing her blood pressure, creatinine, and acid-base balance, and she was discharged with outpatient follow-up.

For infections, highly sensitive rapid diagnostic test kits are necessary for prompt diagnose and infection control. In this study, we evaluated "Quick Chaser CD GDH/TOX" (evaluation kit), a rapid diagnostic kit for , using 65 clinical stool specimens, comparing with GE test immunochromato-CD GDH/TOX "Nissui" (GE test) and TECHLAB QUIK CHEK COMPLETE (QUIK CHEK). The results of the evaluation kit showed a high concordance rate; 100% the positive concordance rate (31/31) and 97.

We present a case of a 78-year-old male patient with stage 3b chronic kidney disease due to immunoglobulin A nephropathy who exhibited altered mental status following dehydration caused by a five-day episode of diarrhea. The patient presented with hypercalcemia and acute kidney injury.

Objectives: To analyze the association between bone metastatic sites and the clinical efficacy of the first-, second-, and third-generation EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKI), in these patients.
Design: Retrospective multicenter cohort study.
Objectives: Colorectal endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) for large tumors is spreading worldwide. Gastric cancer (GC) sometimes occurs after colorectal ESD. However, its status including frequency and risk factors have not been examined well.

We aimed to assess the effect of prophylactic clip closure in preventing DB after colorectal ESD among patients on anticoagulants.
Patients And Methods: We used the ABCD-J study database, a large-scale multicenter study analyzing DB among 34,455 colorectal ESD cases from 47 Japanese institutions.
This study investigated the effectiveness of augmenting datasets for super-resolution processing of brain Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI) T1-weighted images (T1WIs) using deep learning. By incorporating images with different contrasts from the same subject, this study sought to improve network performance and assess its impact on image quality metrics, such as peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) and structural similarity (SSIM). This retrospective study included 240 patients who underwent brain MRI.

Clinical studies have shown that SARS-CoV-2 transmission from the mother to the foetus typically does not occur. However, there is evidence that SARS-CoV-2 can infect the placenta .

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed scan data of adult patients who underwent body CT during two periods relative to DLR implementation at our facility: a 12-month pre-DLR phase (n = 5553) using hybrid iterative reconstruction and a 12-month post-DLR phase (n = 5494) with routine CT reconstruction transitioning to DLR. To ensure comparability between two groups, we employed propensity score matching 1:1 based on age, sex, and body mass index.
To investigate the excitation mechanism of ionospheric perturbations on Mars by the Neutral Gas and Ion Mass Spectrometer (NGIMS) onboard Mars Atmosphere and Volatile EvolutioN (MAVEN), we categorize ionospheric perturbations into three cases: (a) the ion-neutral coupling cases where ion and neutral perturbations are well coupled, (b) the ion-specific cases where ion perturbations move independently from neutrals, and (c) the coronal mass ejection cases associated with solar wind extreme events. A representative number of cases from total profiles are compared with a numerical model to determine the fraction that can be explained by an atmospheric gravity waves (GW). The neutral perturbations on the dayside at 170-190 km altitudes are in excellent agreement with the GW.

To achieve this, the involvement of patient insight is important. In the present study, the preferences of patients regarding drugs that are difficult to extract from their packaging were collected using an electronic medication notebook ('harmo®') based on dispensing data.
